Pie update apps closing

Since I updated to pie I've noticed that when I go to switch between apps its closing them automatically and leaving at most 3 open. When I'm working I always have to switch between 6-8 apps throughout the day and I want to keep them open in the switch between apps window. Is there a way to change it from closing them out. I'm also running in optimized mode if that makes a difference.

I used to keep it in medium power saver but I can't now because I lose the always on display during night hours. And I liked medium power mode cause once my phone is charged I unplug it so it's not constantly plugged in.

I have a similar problem with recent apps disappearing from the list overnight since the update. Someone recommending going to Settings > Device care, then the 3-button menu top right > Auto optimization, and turn that off. It doesn't really work for overnight so far, though. You might find a setting in there somewhere that will at least keep it from resetting during the day. You see, Samsung is very concerned about background apps using our battery, and since we're not grownups they just take care of it for us. That's my take on it anyway.
