I've tried it a bit myself and so far it's been good. It's missing notification options (change sound, LED, etc), emoticons, UI options etc, but it's still in the early stages so it's expected. I haven't tried group chat, but we will once my other friend gets her Droid 2. My friends and I have been looking hard for a BBM replacement and this might do it for now.

So how would this work? If I have friends from BBM, can I add them?

No, it's not BBM. It's a separate app, but PingChat supports Android, Blackberry, and iPhone, so your friends would need to download the app and use that app to communicate. It uses your phone number and/or a username if you choose.

I can't seem to figure out group chat. If I try to send a New Message to two of my friends who also have pingchat, it says that one or more of them don't have it. Both of them are linked to their respective contact info. Do we need to have usernames to use group chat?

I figured it out. One of my contacts, although he has a username for PingChat, I added him off his registered phone number. Although I could use PingChat with him off his phone number, for some reason it doesn't work with group chat. However, I deleted him and then re-added him with his username and group chat now works.
