Pinkish tint on the screen, should I exchange? Update with Pics.

And that ONE Exchange that verizon is talking about is to change devices (going from X to Thunderbolt or whatever). If you get manufacturing defects you can change it as many times as you want. I know...I've done it. I'm one of the uber anal on these boards. LOL.

I dont see it either, but I agree that if you see it...you should take it back.

"Cory, there is no such thing as perfection in anything that is mass produced. It's attitudes like that which raise prices and make carriers tighten their return policies and make things harder on all of us."....sorry VZWRocks....I believe that paying 250 dollars for a cell phone and then the 100 some dollars a month for 24 months...allows for a customer to be satisfied with getting what they want. Try seeing it from a customer perspective, you obviously work for Verizon. If I worked for Ford and I sold you a car and you couldn't get your favorite radio station to come in clearly...you would be want a new radio....right?

Try taking it back to the store...see how it looks compared to the units they have out. If the screen is indeed "off" in some way....there you go! If the screens are the same...well...its the screen. Decide if you can live with it or get your money back!

If the tech at the VZW store agrees that something is not right then by all means get it replaced, but doing so simply because you think you see something that may or may not be there is not right.

I respectfully disagree; especially knowing that 90% of the people in this thread have said they do not have a "pinkish" screen. If there is one available that does not have this issue, I would like to own it. $670 is no small price to pay for this phone. I have witnessed this phenomena on many phones, so this is not something my eyes are making up.

Do not follow that advice? pft. If I spend my hard earned money on anything and I notice something is wrong with it, then I'll return it to get a properly working one. It's a big investment, get your moneys worth.

I say if you think there is an issue, exchange it. I had the pink screen issue with my first Nexus One(I bought two TMO and ATT versions). If you see pink you're not just "seeing things" as one poster seemed to suggest. It's your hard earned money and you have no obligation to keep something you are not 100% happy with. My screen has no tint of any kind(yellow, pink, etc..) it's pure white on a white screen. You can get one too.

Update: I actually took it to verizon corporate store, ofcourse they weren't going to replace it for me but I put my phone right next to the demo and I could literally tell the difference. The guy was telling me that the phone is fine but it seems like the phone is not adjusting brightness in a way the demo was. The demo would light up the whites and mine would look really dim infront of the demo even at full brightness.

I guess it doesn't show in the pictures. I was kinda bothered by it. The guy told me to take it to best buy and have it replaced, I went to best buy the guy compared it with his demo and he didn't bull**** me. I told him either replace it or return the phone and I would get one from verizon, I am here giving you guys the opportunity to fix it and I would appreciate that very much.

He said hold on a second, grabbed his demo and put both phones on full brightness and he showed it to his supervisor and supervisor said fine replace it. He did try to tell me to keep it for a few more days to see if it adjusts but I was like na man I dont wanna have to come here again. I just wanna get it done.

The new phone actually is much brighter even at auto brightness.

Thanks for your suggestion guys. I am one of those guys who doesn't give retailers hard time and like replacing things just because I think there is something there. I was at school for 4 hours studying for midterms after I got my phone replaced so never got a chance to post until now. I did exactly as suggested without even reading the suggestions by putting my phone right next to the demo unit. I see the new unit adjusting brightness and literally can see it light up the unit and my face, lol. The older unit for some reason never stood out, always looked dim.

First of all I never said that the phone did not have a problem, just that I didn't see it in the pictures. Second no I do not work for Verizon, but I do know people who do and I DO work retail so I know that (and this is no exaggeration) that 70% of items which are returned to stores as defective are not defective at all and more and more supplier are charging stores for taking them back when they shouldn't. I just hate it when you defend the carrier at all and people blow you off assuming you work for them. I DO think about things from the customer's perspective all the time, but I think the the customers should look at it from the retailers perspective as well sometimes.

To the OP, I'm glad it worked out for you and as long as the the store rep (I said earlier to go the corporate store but should have said where you got it -- Best Buy -- my badthe VZW Store is not going to return it within the basic return date when you got it elsewhere) can see the problem then it's all good, and then I agree you had a problem and am glad you got it replaced.

With all due respect, Corey, you are coming from he Fascinate, and if memory serves the DInc before that, which both have SuperAMOLED screens the best screens on the market. And while the screen on the TB is nice, it is not as nice as the screens on those phones. Don't you think it's possible you are seeing things here as well?

I never said the OP's phone was not defective, merely that he should get a second opinion from a phone professional, not just rely on people on a cel phone blog to tell him weather we can see something from some pictures.

I for one can attest to this. No offense to the op but if he had another phone avail and took the pics in a comparative nature you would see the difference. I am browsing this forum with my bolt and dx at the same time to compare battery life and I can TOTALLY SEE THE DIFFERENCE. My dx is very white and the bolt almost seems like it has a layer of automotive window tinting over the screen. That's the best way I can explain it. And YES kinda pinkish as well. adjusting the brightness higher surely helps but the current condition of this phone means that higher brightness will leave this phone at a total time of 2-3 hours. Talk about a catch 22....

the phone's screen does seem to be a bit biased towards red channel. Kind of like a mis-calibrated monitor.

the funny thing is that my iPhone was mis-calibrated towards bias in blue channel.

I do like Thunderbolt's screen however. Can't touch the iPhone 4, but way better than Fascinate. That PenTile SAMOLED was terrible with it's totally jagged text.

And the Droid X, EVO, original Droid, and a history of other non Android phones. I've witnessed this on all of them. One of my Fascinates had an extremely annoying pink tint as well. I still have both of them, and here are a few pictures comparing each screen. Same brightness levels (auto brightness disabled). Here's an analogy:

  1. I order a white t-shirt from Nordstrom.
  2. My friend orders the same white t-shirt.
  3. Mine has a pinkish tint.
  4. His is white.
  5. If I took mine back, Nordstrom would not accuse me of being the reason prices are increasing. They would take it back, no questions asked. I ordered a white t-shirt. So just like that t-shirt, I would expect a white screen to be white, especially if they had one.

I used the browser comparison - with the white screens - because it shows up well on camera. However, the pink bleeds over to other screens too, regardless of color.

I am having a similar issue with my phone, except my tint is both pink and blue. My keys all have a blue line running through them, as well as whenever I touch my screen it either turns all the way pink or all the way blue. I will definitely be taking mine back tomorrow to best buy. I'm glad that I'm not the only person havingthis issue and hopefully HTC or Verizon will address it at some point.

I honestly do think that it seems like HTC and verizon were working on some high priority issues. The screen coloring seems to be off. My new one is much better then my old one but it seems as if with the low brightness the screen colors seem off a little.

Hopefully this is one of the things HTC signed off on when they released the phone. I hope they address little issues like this with OTA update.

Re: Pinkish tint on the screen, should I exchange? Update with Pi

Mine definitely has a pinkish tint as well I got it today off Craigslist and as soon as i was driving away today I asked the person I was with if they noticed it at all they said no but I knew I wasn't crazy and now I've stumbled upon this thread. Oh well if it bothers me enough I'm sure I can trade for a Charge or something :)

Re: Pinkish tint on the screen, should I exchange? Update with Pi

I honestly have seen it on samsung phones alot but not my Bolt. And on the subject of screens, I thought IMO, that the Bolt screen was a nicer screen than the DX. The DX had a decnt screen but colors really didnt pop the way they do on my Bolt. Its different strokes for different folkes but honestly I think the Bolts screen is beautiful.

Definitely liked the screen on my Incredible 2 better than this or my Droid X
