Hi everyone, apologies if this has already been talked about but i couldnt find this exact issue in researching

i have a pixel 2 with android P installed with february security patch, but i cant get it to work with android auto. i have tried different cables with no luck.
I tried a pixel 3, as well as a galaxy s8 and they both connected no problem, just seems to be a problem with my phone.

any ideas? i have developer mode activated and have tried with usb debugging on and off

Does your Pixel 2 connect to your computer (for file transfer) correctly? If not then it won't work with Android Auto either. You have to start somewhere and that's where I'd suggest.

Although I have never encountered this personally a couple of forum members have mentioned that just having Developer options turned on has caused some weird behavior. You could try turning it off just to see.

When you run the Android Auto application on your phone when it's connected to the car is it generating some error? If you simply try to play media from the phone to the car when it's connected does that work?

I tried turning it off, but i read it doesnt actually turn it off, i'd have to try a factory reset - i'd like to avoid that if possible for now.

android auto app works no problem, and sound plays over bluetooth no problem as well, but nothing works via usb, except charging

Sorry, I'm stumped. If you used the same USB-C <> USB-A cable in the car that you used for the Pixel 3 and it doesn't work, but using that same cable you can transfer files to your computer - well, it should work.
I use Android Auto with my Pixel 2 XL in a 2018 Hyundai Tucson and it works (as well as Android Auto works, which I'm frankly not impressed by).

Mine stopped working suddenly one point last summer. I use it with a Panasonic i installed. I do not remember where i got this tip, but the problem seemed to be that the panasonic's autostart for Android Auto was faster than the phone recognised that it was plugged in and could start the app... then it would fail. The solution was to turn-off autostart for AA on the panasonic head unit. Now, i plug in the phone. Wait a moment (usually to put on my seatbeal) and then manually launch AA on the head unit. I have never had a problem since then.
