Pixel 2 broken after factory reset

Hi all, I have a Pixel 2 which was working like a charm, with the latest updates running Android 11. I needed to change the user account on the phone, so decided to do a factory reset. Big mistake. Now it's completely borked - here are the symptoms:

- Can't connect to wi-fi: I keep trying to connect, it gets stuck at 'Obtaining IP address' for a while, then I see it cycle between 'Saved' and 'Obtaining IP address' a few times, then eventually fails with 'authentication problem'. All my other devices connect fine, and this exact same phone connected fine before factory resetting. I've tried entering the password about 50 times, and it's definitely the right password. I've tried resetting my router, the phone, resetting wifi and bluetooth settings, another factory reset, with and without attempting to restore data from backup, nothing helps.

- Every time I reboot the phone, I get a message saying 'Google keeps stopping'.

- Today I decided to try connecting wifi again and noticed that now the fingerprint sensor doesn't work.

Basically, factory resetting seems to have essentially bricked my phone. Any advice?

When you factory reset it do it as a new device, don't do any backups. They can cause problems like that. If the phones working fine then start adding things back in.

Thanks, but I've tried factory resetting as new without restoring from backup, and I get the same problem :(

I've just tried flashing Android 9 and Android 10 to my phone, and get the same problems. I don't get it. :(

Welcome to Android Central! Are you able to try setting the phone up on a different wi-fi network?

I've actually replaced my router, and now it magically works! Very strange, because all my other wireless devices (Chromebook, iPhone, Roku, Samsung tablet, Dell XPS laptop, MacBook Pro) all connected fine.

The old router was a BT HomeHub v5. I've now got a BT Smart Hub 2.

Eek the homehub 5 caused me no end of issues when I had bt. Glad your new router works.
