Pixel 2 Camera is phenomenal

Re: Pixel 2 Camera is phenominal

But look at it this way. If the camera software is going to be available on any Android device, or select devices which it will, any Android with good hardware is going to be able to get phenomenal pictures and it won't be exclusive to just the Pixel line

Re: Pixel 2 Camera is phenominal

Best to wait for some photos from real people rather than Google sponsored. It is hard to believe that this camera can match the dual camera option newer flagships are using.

If it loads fast, takes pictures instantly, saves them instantly, focuses fast on what I want it to focus on, and does decent low light I'll be happy. Tired of my current clunky phone camera.

I haven't read anything anywhere that would make me think that Google has any intention of making this software available elsewhere. I would be very surprised if this software made its way to any other phones. It's gonna be a Pixel exclusive for as long as Google wants to make Pixels an attractive option for phone buyers.

Re: Pixel 2 Camera is phenominal

I have seen videos of the Nokia 8 using the standard Nokia cam app vs the pixel cam software and it made a difference. I have read that the cam app will be made available to other android phones as well

Camera software is unique and not shared across brands.

I don't think that video of the Nokia 8 running pixel cam software is a lie. also I have read on other forums that google cam software is or is going to be available on other android phones. its out there

Not saying it's going to be perfect or legit or whatever, but people are tinkering with it. It's probably only going to come so close, and not be perfect.

By no means am I degrading the capability of the pixel camera, as I am a pixel owner myself and the camera still wows me to this day even a year later. Was just trying to make a point that there are developers already looking into other options and can possibly hit on something really good or something to give other android owners with sub par cameras better quality to what they have

Could you maybe post a link to any of these sources? I'd be interested in reading about that myself. Thanks!

Thanks for the link!

That's very interesting.

But that's not referring to the new algorithms found in the new Pixel 2's camera, that article was published back in August, before anyone knew about the fancy computational photography that was unveiled on 10/4.

I have no doubt that someone will attempt to crack the new software and port it over to another camera, but I don't think there will be any moves in that direction officially by Google. As of right this minute we don't have any idea whether Google's Computational Photography magic is contained in the camera app or if it's secreted away in firmware. I suspect that it is resident in firmware, especially considering how much is being done at such a high rate of speed.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. I know that if I were Google I wouldn't make this stuff available to any other platforms.

By the time someone makes a reliable Pixel camera app for the rest of Android World, we will be on the Pixel 3 or the next hottest phone camera. If there is one thing I have learned from reading XDA, flashing and tinkering all the time, it is that you are better off getting it the first place, don't save couple hundred bucks hoping some developer will provide software magic. I have a 1 year old that I take precious photos all day long. I NEED the best camera with reliable software. The Pixel is the perfect phone and no other comes close imo.

BTW Pixel 2 does not have the same sensor as Galaxies or other Android. Each Pixel arguabaly has two sub pixels which allows software blurring of background. You can't simply install Pixel software on a Samsung phone.

My point is, the Pixel is now, and it the tech World it means everything.

I had hope for S7 Edge with HDR+ software. It crashed all the time.

I originally thought you meant that Google was making their software availabile to other brands, not a port. When Google writes the software it's based on their hardware so porting is not quite the same thing. A lot of people did enjoy using that port on the LG G6 because the HDR+ produced great results, though it doesn't recognize the wide cam.

Great post....more people need to realize how far ahead Google is in mobile cameras. They have the perfect blend of the camera software and their own post processing algorithms.

They don't need dual cameras to do what the others do....

..

Well ... Perhaps. If so, that has been the case for exactly 1 year, where before that they we very far behind.

My concern goes the other way. Since they have had exactly 1 (one) camera that was better than the competition, it is assumed now that they will be great going forward. I hope this to be true, I even feel this will be true, but we should at least wait to see some real photos and get the Pixel 2 in our hands before we take any bows for Google, just yet .. I don't love the initial pics I see on Youtube so far TBH ..
