I originally had a Google Pixel XL, great phone till I dunked it in the sink. So at the time I decided to get a HTC U11 as its water resistant, stunning looking phone, but has some really dated apps such as the Contacts / Dialer and Messages app. Recently due to issues with the network I am on I can now leave for free and take the handset with me for free*unlocked).

I am so tempted to consider swapping it out for the Pixel 2 , but when you read all the forums you get the usual moans and groans on every phone , but there is one that stands out and is worrying me ... Screen Burn .... or is it ? Some are saying its not burn but ghosting ... any one give advice who has one ?

Hello! Are you referring to screen burn-in on the regular 2 or the 2 XL? Apparently the AOD is constantly moving - even if it is just a fraction of a move - so the chances of burn-in are smaller. Of course, Google is also offering a two-year warranty on their devices; so if anything happens to it, you can always rely on that!

Plus, users are often more likely to post about negative reviews of products/places/experiences than they are to post positive ones. However, I'm sure you will find users here who do not have any of the burn-in issues either!

My advice to you is to go for it! If you decide you are unhappy with the Pixel 2, you can always return it and stick with your U11; or try something else. :)

Let us know what you decide!

I think the screen burn is overrated but also take in to example to screen size is different so if you love the 5.5 screen now stick with u11. But my wife has the u11 it's a gorgeous phone.

I own both and think the U11 is the better phone, by a wide margin. Stellar battery life, assignable Active Edge, expandable storage, and more. I only switched to the Pixel 2 b/c the U11 doesn't play well with Verizon. Pixel 2 is several months younger but, to me, feels like a downgrade.

How does the battery life compare on the two devices?

I got no, zip zero screen burn on my P2XL.

I'd definitely get the Pixel 2. I have a U11 as well and, while it's a good phone, you can just see that there was much less thought and care put into it. Apart from headphone audio, the Pixel 2 is superior in every way.

OP, have you made a decision yet? It's a tough one to make, for sure! The U11 and Pixel 2 line are great!

To be honest , love the U11's looks in blue.

But it has its faults... slippery as an eel so its in a silicon case for grip , and quite a few annoying software bugs on 7.1, silly things like the timer often freezes, the phone and messaging app look so primitive/out of date

Swapped a lot of apps out already for Google ones.

Will probably get a Pixel 2 and sell the U11, I admit 2 XL is nice just a bit too big for the pocket.

What about the HTC dialler, contacts and messages apps look dated? They're just simple, inoffensive designs.

Just for me they look dated, they may be plain and simple but things move on, finishes get polished and no just the case.

If you look at the stock apps its like several design teams all did their own thing in different offices and they neglected to discuss a unified presentation for the apps. Its the only thing I don't like, as I sit and look at the phone right now, and see lack of Icon design continuity , looks a bit of a mix match/ after thought.

May be the Oreo update will improve things if HTC release it for the UK unlocked version, will have to wait n see. If not Pixel 2 here we come.

I think the Oreo date has been living for the HTC U 11 unlock version. I got it but I'm also in the US. So I thought the unlocked version was the same it doesn't really matter. However I'm having severe battery issues after upgrading to 8.1 I used to get like 16 to 18 hours of battery or even sometimes 24 hours a day depending on my usage. But I only get like 8 hours before I got to charge it. Everything else about the update works great. And I'm done factory reset I just think it might be a buddy that's not affecting everyone but there has been reports that it does diminish the battery. I'm hoping HTC knows this and hopefully this is it with either 8.1 or a patch.

Has the 8.0 update changed the phone that much , worth the wait ?

I think it is worth the wait, I just hope you don't get the same battery issues I'm having currently. It's much faster and it's the little things that they that was changed

From what I've seen of the U11+, which is on Oreo, nothing has changed to improve the horrible app design anyway.

The camera is better on the Pixel 2, as is the screen due to the U11 not allowing you to view it in landscape when wearing polarised glasses. The latter was the only reason I sent my U11 back. If these aren't that important to you I'd stick with the HTC, it's by far the prettiest phone on the market (especially in red).

I must agree with you about the Solar Red - it is gorgeous...
