Pixel 2 Touch issue?

I have noticed that when switch brands of phones. You sometimes have to adjust how forceful you have to touch the screen. Every company calibrated touch sensitivity differently. Question I know on my essential phone which is currently on 8.1 there is an option under developer options to adjust the screen sensitivity. I'm not sure if that is just something essential baked in or if it's part of 8.1
Good idea, I've seen that on other phones but I was not able to find that.
I've had touch issues before and after the ota. not many but are annoying. I think it's software related was bad with dialer then fixed with update
I don't mind clicking an icon twice to start an app or something occasionally but it's really irritating when I'm typing.

So I took the screen protector off, and then I turned off all the gesture typing on gboard as this is something I had issues with on my G6. I also turned down the haptic feedback on Gboard to 5ms so we'll see if that helps. I don't use gesture typing often but I do like to have it when I want to use it but if it makes the stupid thing behave correctly when I'm typing then I'll take it. I have noticed that sometimes the haptic doesn't respond when I hit a key so maybe it's the haptics?

I wasn't able to find it either but you could try Settings -> System -> Developer options -> Show taps (enable). That'll at least give you some visual feedback that you did touch the screen in a particular spot.
And you could also turn haptic feedback off completely (temporarily) to be sure that's not interfering.

Yeah it's weird. Sometimes I think maybe I'm just missing the keys or the button but then I do it again and I'm clearly hitting it. It just doesn't respond. Typing this message out it has done it three times.

I'm just curious why you went with the smaller model?

Curious as to what is wrong with LG
My G6? I've had some minor issues with that too. The keyboard flakes out on me regularly, I'm also not a huge fan of the screen, I like the size but it always looks dark unless I crank the brightness. Add all the bloat and it just feels slower overall. That said, I'm debating going back to it. Because overall it's pretty solid and the software isn't that bad. I'd save $800 though I'd likely use my jump before too long anyway.

I have an event this week where I'll get to use the camera quite a bit on this Pixel 2 and that's going to tell me if the camera is worth the upgrade.

Ah gotcha. The camera is definitely awesome IMO. Hard to beat. Best of luck.

Hmm that is really odd since my Pixel almost seemed to register touches when I swear my finger was not even on the screen yet. It was very responsive. I did leave the haptic feedback on but had turned off the touch sounds. Bummer that it isn't working out for you as you had hoped.

Yeah this is the second one that does it. Haptic is on, but I've tried it with it off too and touch sounds are always off.

I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed in this phone so far. Doesn't seem like the quality is there. The software is fine, works well but feels like it's missing something. IDK.

Please keep us posted on what you decide! Yes, the G6 is a really solid device. By "bloat," are you talking about the LG apps and skin? The last LG phone I had (but loved!) was the G3; and I do remember it coming with quite a few LG apps that I never used.

Yeah there is a lot of LG apps and a few carrier apps to. It's not as bad as Samsung but still quite a bit. It's not terrible but it still takes away from the experience.

Update on the touch issue, found a thread on XDA, it appears if you disable the "squeeze for assistant" as I have been doing it effects the touch accuracy & response. So I turned it back on and cranked the sensitivity all the way up so I wouldn't trigger it accidentally every time I pick up the phone as I had been and so far (fingers crossed) since last night that seems to have fixed the issue. I'll give it a couple of days but there is a noticeable improvement so far.

Wow.... I'm surprised that they can't separate the two. Also surprised that Google support isn't aware of it.
Glad you solved it and it now makes sense why you had the issue on both phones.

Does this mean the phone is now a keeper for you?

Yeah you wouldn't think the two would effect each other, logically they shouldn't but software is crazy that way.

IDK yet. I'm struggling with the value, not that the phone isn't good but the new Moto phones are about to be announced and the G6 looks like it will be pretty good. I'm also struggling to hold this thing comfortably for some reason, my hands just aren't meshing well for some reason. I think I'm going to need a few more days to adjust now that the touch seems to be working properly but typing this now I can say wow, what an improvement in touch response.

I have an event later this week that will require a bit of camera use, both pics and video and that will likely be the deciding factor. If like the pics and video, I'll probably keep it.

I was a devoted Moto phone customer until Lenovo took over. Broken promises on OS updates killed it for me. I'm not sure how they are now in terms of major and minor updates.

We're really close to the One Plus 6 release. Maybe...?

I have a Moto G4 that I used for a few months last year. My kid is using it now. It just got the February security update two weeks ago, it's still on 7.0 but for a 2GB model with all the games and apps my tween has on it it has performed brilliantly. Even now I can pick that phone up with all the stuff she has on it and it runs great. So I kind of have an appreciation for it because it handled everything I threw at it as well as my kid and keeps on trucking. After years of Samsung and LG flagships that thing kept right up with them in every department except camera.

I have a buddy here at work on a G5+ that's still on 7.0 but he loves it, and he's also on the February security update. The camera is solid. We took some pics here at work to compare to the pixel 2, and yes zooming in the Pixel 2 pics have more detail, but idk that it's critical enough for most pics. For 40% of the price of a Pixel 2 I don't think you can go wrong. So I think they are really solid, and I know some people with a Z play also and they love them. That said, I wanted to try the Google experience this time and see if the camera was really that good so I'm going to put this thing through it's paces the next few days and see if I really need it or if I'd be just fine with a Moto G5/6 or Z Play.

That is pretty crazy that the touch sensitivity would be tied into the squeeze function. I never disabled that feature though, I guess that's why I never had issues with touch response. But I also cranked it up pretty high as well, since I rarely use my assistants.

As for your feelings about it, I remember when I first unboxed mine and held it, I was very unimpressed. It doesn't feel like a $650+ phone at all. But I did eventually start to like it and only returned it because I noticed the back glass wasn't flush with the rest of the back and when I got a replacement, it had mushy buttons. So I said f-it, but I still thought that it was a really good phone.

So what did you go to?

I ended up getting an iPhone X that I absolutely love but I still use my Galaxy S7 as well. I won't say that I am on board with Apple, since I haven't used an iPhone as a daily driver since the 3GS, but I am impressed for now. After going through about 18 android phones over the past two years, I thought I should try something drastic.
