Pixel 2 XL and Android Auto working?

Curious to what unit everyone is using. Aftermarket or factory unit. I have a Kenwood DDX9902S. Upgraded from the HTC 10 to the Pixel 2. The only way I can get android auto to engage is to enable USB debugging. When I turn debugging off is doesn't register that the phone is plugged in. I'm using the same set up as my 10, which also had USB-C. So far while debugging is turned on I haven't had any lock up or freezing issues. Also it could be in my head but I think the voice sounds different then with the 10.

I have the same issue, tried removing all vehicles and starting over but it didn't work. Had no issues with the OG XL.

I just installed a Kenwood DDX9903S and had the same issues as above. Won't connect. Only way i got it working was to restart the phone and immediately plug in the usb cable to the phone. I did notice my notifcation for usb charging would go off and on again on the pixel 2xl when it wouldn't connect. I'll try enabling usb debugging now and see if it works. I haven't updated the kenwood firmware to the July 2017 one. Phone is running android oreo 8.1

Maybe we should send this thread to kenwood/google to work out the issue?

Android Auto works fine for me on the 2XL, it seems to me more reliable than it was on the 6P. My car is a 2017 Chevy Volt.

I have a Pioneer head unit and it acts wonky with my Pixel 2. When I plug it in the charging icon on the bottom of my phone goes on and off and Android Auto doesn't launch right away because of this. I tried different cables, no luck. Bluetooth works fine though. Problem is you need to plug it in to use Android Auto! I read people with other phones have no problem. Also same unit with my son's iPhone works great when plugged in.

I am having the exact same problem using a 2018 Pixel II XL and a new Pioneer AVH3300NEX. USB debugging doesn't do anything. Usually if I leave it plugged in, it will start AA after about 15 minutes driving.

R&R of App doesn't change anything. Other models of phones connect immediately. Anyone overcome this with a Pixel II XL . . . . . or actually have one that works with a Pioneer Head?

What seems to be the issue?

I have a Sony XAV-AX100 head unit installed in my car and Android Auto works absolutely fine with it.

Have a 2018 Pixel 2 XL and running 8.1 with the June Patch.
Nova Launcher instead of stock, but thats about it

Phone connects within seconds of the unit powering up through the USB port
