Pixel 2 XL owners tempted by OnePlus 6?

How frequent are security updates and how do they lag behind Google for major updates?

Monthly updates are hit and miss, but it's basically ... if you're enrolled in their free beta program, you get most of the monthly updates. If you're not... not so much. Major OS updates, they're typically 3 to 5 months behind Google, which is bad, but it is also better than a lot of other OEM's. There's a big list of OEM's that haven't pushed 8.1 to anything. The OnePlus 6 is also one of the devices eligible for the Android P beta, something that most OEM's are not eligible for.

Can someone please answer this as I want to know too?
My OnePlus updated to the May Security updates on the 15th and also a update to the launcher , couldn't be happier

I'm coming around on this. Only thing really holding me back is the camera which looks pretty solid on the OP6 but I'm having a hard time giving up the Pixel 2 camera. That said, everything else the Pixel 2 offers I can live without. I don't need the squeeze, I'll take the bigger screen and battery, I do occasionally miss the headphone jack and I still have issues with touch response. Honestly I'm not super impressed with Google's hardware.

Still not sure how much I trust One Plus but idk that Google or anyone else is any better.

Surprisingly my OnePlus 5T the platform it's been incredibly stable it's very solid phone , if their cameras improved on the 6 it's a win win.
Google tries to lead the edge it's just not working.

Seems like a downgrade to me.
It definitely is a downgrade on almost every front. Only the SoC is "better" and the P2/P2XL aren't exactly hurting in the performance category. Pixels win on software, security, privacy, updates, support, build materials (imo), speakers, camera, IP rating, supporting USB PD, supporting more than 45% of the US market, display (due to notchless), design (imo), etc.

But it is meant to feel like a downgrade because they are intentionally making a mid-range device and merely playing to a few numbers on the spec sheet to tempt the customers who can't look past those numbers. Because OMG the RAM. Putting an SD845 and all the RAM in the world can't overcome the mid-range nature of not supporting msny LTE bands (example, Verizon certification process is apparently expensive af) or their badly done software or their company's consistent misteps in guarding their customers personal and financial data, etc.

But if we want to wait a couple months and compare it to the actual flagships of this year, I guess the new iPhones and Pixels and the Note 9 are on their way to say their piece.

The OnePlus 6 looks like a really interesting device. Seems to check a lot of boxes.

If the Pixel 3 XL looks to have the same, low-quality screen that the Pixel 2 XL has, then the OnePlus 6 is a phone I'll consider getting instead.
By the time the P3 comes out One Plus will have replaced the 6 with the 6T. They change their phones every 6 months

I'm still really lost on the glass backing .. with no wireless charging. At least Samsung does it for a reason... Maybe not the main reason but a reason nonetheless.

I think the OP6 is a pretty decent device with good specs. Not enough to steer me away from my P2XL though. Waiting to see what Google has up their sleeves in October for the P3XL!

Same. I am not even a watch person but hearing about a "Pixel watch" to accompany the phone... I may have to try watches again (it has been years since I have tried wearing one).

very tempted here, that facial unlock is extremely alluring. and the speed of the thing...yup, very tempted

What about privacy concerns with OP as a company in general?

I know you did not ask me; but I'd say that OnePlus has made strides in the security department. Based on the security breach it had a few months back, and based off of the publicity that gave them, it would make sense that they would want to do everything possible to ensure their customers are protected.

Not that I am defending OP, but I think that buying online is a gamble every time you do it. You can do it dozens of times and be safe and then there's the one odd time that something happens. It's a risk but it's a risk a lot of us take daily, or once a week, etc.

You can always contact OnePlus customer care or check out their FAQ on their website to see if those routes may ease your worries.

I definitely understand your concern, however. It's your hard-earned money and you want it to be spent according to your specifications. Trusting a company is essential in that regard.

So I think part of it is definitely for reception just like the Pixels, but yeah the rest is just to troll Samsung. I think it was CNET's review the started the video showing an S9+ calling it a OP6 then stopped and swapped them out and I have to admit, it looks a lot like the back of the S8, Note 8 & S9.

I looked at a good comparison of the camera to the Pixel 2 XL, iPhone X & S9+ on phone arena I think and it was pretty obvious the Pixel 2 XL & iPhone X were better with the Pixel 2 XL the best IMO. That kind of sold me on sticking with the Pixel 2, not that the OP6 pics were bad, but enhanced looking with Samsung like processing.

You know I have that concern as well and I am sure they are better but it does worry me a bit. But, if I was in the market I think I'd buy one. I kind of like what they are doing so if I were to get one I think I would order through Amazon, makes me feel a little safer.
