As I've mentioned before, I have a P2XL on pre-order and as of now, I plan to keep it that way. I'll decide to return or exchange, or keep, depending on what I get.
But, since we are all looking at screens so closely in this thread, I thought I'd do my own 30-second test. Here's what I did...
I quickly compared two phones within reach: Pixel XL butted-up against a new S8. Both on the same white screen, both with brightness on full. Pixel is not on sRGB, the S8 on adaptive.
What did I find?
Straight on, the Pixel appeared "whiter", the S8 just a tad blue.
At a 45 degree angle, the Pixel clearly had a red/pink hue, the S8 clearly had a blue tint - just like most of the P2XL videos I've seen.
Maybe what's most important, is that both owners (me: Pixel, wife: S8) have considered our displays to be absolutely perfect. Side by side, they look anything but perfect, and they've both gone off in two different directions. I've checked my XL color when tilted in the past week a number of times, but it actually didn't catch my eye until I did two phones side-by-side.
I realize is is just a 30-second test - not baselined, not scientific. But, it might indicate how much variance we all might have right in the "perfect" displays so many of us think we currently own.
For myself, I almost cancelled my pre-order a number of times over the past week, but I've settled into the hope that any variance in the P2XL screen is as far down in the noise as the "perfect" displays my wife and I currently own.
