Have been to my local Verizon store 3 times.Let me begin The first time was before this became the run away train it is. Thought the screen looked good. Colors were not overly saturated like the Note 8, but I liked. Then I read about the color hue shift, patchy low light and grainy look. Took a second trip to the Verizon store. The first thing I did was to compare the xl to note and iphone 8 in gerneral. At max brightness, the Note 8 had a dingy white screen on any page that was predomently white. The iphone 8 was brighter, but not as bright as the XL. Then I compared what happened on the Note 8 if I rotated the phone side to side. There was a definite change in color hue. It wasn't blue, but it was definitely there. Then I tried the same thing with the iphone. Same change in color hue as the Note 8. Not blue, but definitely changed.
I went back to the XL and dialed down the white to a brightness similar to the Note 8. The change of the color hue was still faintly blue, but definitely less noticeable. Since the most of my reading has said that the XL is calibrated to the cooler side, while the Note 8 and iphone 8 were more on the warm side, I wonder if that is why the XL is moving to the blue side when rotated.
When holding the XL, the blue hue was not normally a problem. The big finding was that the iPhone 8 and Note 8 both show shifts in hue when rotated side to side or top to bottom.
