Pixel 2 XL Screen Discussion

LOL at all the opinions. Pixel 2 is a mid range device at best?

First of all, normal person don't think this way. Second, I want to see what is in your pocket? A Samsung stutter-fest? Or LG Cant-Live-up-to-the-hype? Whatever you have in your pocket does not have the best camera, nor best Android OS.

Have you seen this article on the camera?

Let’s not act like the $950 note 8 is perfect. It’s just as imperfect as the 2 XL, just in different ways.

Right, it's pretty simple.

Note Pros: S-Pen, Best display on an Android, great camera, Samsung Pay, Wireless Charging, great SOC, lots of RAM
Note Cons: Not the best software, very weak update support, very weak on security updates, very weak on supporting new version features, all glass body, edge display, no 128 GB storage option, micro SD slot, horrible privacy policy, etc.

Pixel 2 XL Pros: Best software, best security, guaranteed updates, unlimited storage for photos/videos at full res, best camera, 128 GB storage option, same SOC, very good display, Lens, Project Treble, etc, etc.
Pixel 2 XL Cons: Some people experience blue tint issue on display, no headphone jack (for the 50 people who absolutely depending on charging and listening to aux. audio at the same time, etc.

Or we could leave it in the words of Jerry, "We need to realize we're paying Samsung $900 for a superb display and very usable software when we buy the Galaxy Note 8, but we're paying Google $900 for a very usable display and superb software."

So I guess pick your priorities and spend your dollars accordingly.

Did you ever notice that most posters that trash talk a phone rarely use facts? I can only guess at what truly feeds this behavior but I'll keep that to myself.

There are three brands at moment that I won't consider because of their deficiencies yet I will never trash talk in their respective threads. When I do comment, I will talk about features or deficiencies that I don't like but I'll never insult it or tell people not to buy it.
Having said that...the Pixels are not perfect but they are far from mid-range. You know it, I know it and most intelligent consumers know it. There are features and intelligence that are being implemented by Google that are just the beginning.

I'm not sure which your 3 brands are but I respect the idea of not trash talking them. We all really have different ideas of what exactly is the most important thing about a phone. It's difficult for me to understand that there are some folks who can't realize that. It's totally cool for one person to think that audio is the most important feature, while another thinks removable battery is and another thinks that it is all about security, etc. You get the point. None of those people are wrong because they're simply saying what things they value relative to other qualities.

Might be worth some of us revisiting one of the fundamental principles of coexistence: be together; not the same.

And on that Samsung phone Google will be involved anyway , maps, photos, assistant, calendar, ect ,so why not just experience Google in a hole on there own phone.
And a pure Android experience can't wait 4 more days ,my N8 was returned.

And you can get an adapter to charge and listen, though some might find it an inconvenience.

I love your avatar! Did you have that avatar before you ordered the Panda, or did ordering the Panda inspire you to make that your avatar?
I just changed it yesterday after years with the same one. I guess the wait is getting to me.

I went to Verizon today to checkout the pixel 2's. Overall, the non do version just felt better in the hand. the XL version seemed a little washed out, but it wasn't bad at all. I actually liked it. I came to the conclusion though that if I was to buy a phone today it would be the smaller version. something about it just felt right. if I was to go big screen though, hands down it would be a v30 that was the perfect screen to body ratio. not too, wide not too tall

I checked out a few more stores today. Another two 2XL's. Either Australia got a good batch or people are just getting too carried away lol. There's blue tint but definitely not annoying. I've had mainly galaxies and now an S8. I'd be happy with the 2xl screen.

If you think so. To me something just doesn’t feel right about Google asking 1K for an inferior display.

1. Not everyone thinks it's an "inferior display".
2. I will gladly pay $850 for this camera, software, and display. The entire experience is worth the price for me. Almost all other phones have software experiences that are total dealbreakers for me. Sure, I could pay the same or more for a Samsung display, but I'd also have to have the Samsung software experience and...no. Hell no.

ExZaaaaaactLy. No. Hell no. TouchWiz...ick, ew, disgusting.

You got that right. Samsung screwed up big with the weight of the note 8 coupled with the dimensions. It's not a comfortable phone to hold. And that battery life is not great, especially with having to turn features off in order for it not to drain super fast. I still have my note 8 and will until I upgrade with T-Mobile again, but I won't be using it much now.

Lol so because they don't have the magical s-pen, SD card support ( which no Nexus/Pixel) has had since the galaxy nexus if I remember right, and wireless charging it's mid-range?! Please! The pixel performance wise is still better than Samsung. Besides bleeding edge tech, which most are basically the same on either phone except those three I mentioned above they are both essentially the same thing. Pixel is far from mid-range.

The Pixel isn't far removed from a midrange phone. It has a Snapdragon 835 and a great camera and that's basically the only difference.

The Note 8 is basically as fast as the Pixel and faster once things are in RAM.

But if Samsung gave you a fat chunk of change off the phone just for trading in your 3 year old device for a Note 8, would you do it?
