It was rumored last year so I'm thinking it got pushed back. I bet it's been worked on for a long time and they are waiting for the perfect chip to go with it.

On the phone .. this "Lite" business ... If this actually does end up being released in the US, I'm in the camp that it's targeting the potential XR customer. Put them in conflict. That's the only thing I can come up on this strategy IF it's released in the west.

To be honest disruption in that specific category wouldn’t be a bad strategy. But I feel those who want an iPhone can’t be pulled away from the invisible iMessage chain.

To my knowledge, no one at Google has stated what the "A" is for, beyond to distinguish the models from the regular 3 and 3 XL.
