My wife’s Pixel 3 has recently randomly started going straight to voicemail and I can’t figure it out. I thought the only reason it might was (1) phone was off (2) Do Not Disturb was enabled or (3) Airplane Mode was enabled. She’s using Boom Mobile as her carrier and I believe she’s on Android 11.

I bet it does this one out of every three calls... are there other reasons why it could randomly go straight to voicemail it hasn’t always did this?

Well that’s what I’ve asked her before but think she keeps forgetting to look when this happens... I may have to get her an app so it’s easier to see.

She’s in a nursing home (and quarantined) in a different city so it’s not like I can go over and have someone call her phone. I do know with my Pixel 3XL using Tracfone/Verizon when I get a poor signal it does not go straight to voicemail but rather tries to roam which it can’t do and then tells me to call Verizon.

Does she use wi-fi calling? If so, if the wi-fi network there is poor, I wonder if that might make things a little spotty as well.

It might be worth calling Boom Mobile support and ask what the coverage is like in that area. If it's a bit spotty, that could lead to occasional calls that go straight to voicemail.

I agree boom mobile could be a issue ,poor coverage can cause calls to go voicemail.

So it is possible poor coverage could cause going straight to voicemail wasn’t sure about that. My wife and I were both on Tracfone until she needed more minutes and it made since to compare rates among providers. I chose Boom Mobile since it had roughly the same Verizon coverage as Tracfone/Verizon coverage which meant neither allowed roaming.

I will call Boom Mobile on Monday to see if they can shine any light on this.

I’m begging to wonder if my wife can get by with a cheap no roaming cell plans like Boom Mobile, Tracfone, etc. and will have to with one of the more expensive big providers that would have roaming.

Yeah it use to happen with me , was on boost mobile at the time and only happen at work .

Since she has a Pixel, look into Google Fi. It can be quite inexpensive if you don't use a lot of data.

So I called Boom Mobile and they changed some settings on their end then had me help my wife through resetting her Wi-Fi, Mobile & Bluetooth. Since it doesn’t go directly to voicemail every time it’s hard to figure out.

Tonight my son called my wife and it went straight to voicemail and just a few minutes later I called and I was able to get through... just crazy. If her phone was somehow blocking his number would it go straight to voicemail?

Someone in another forum brought up whether she had VoLTE enabled and I’m not sure but it did get me thinking about my Pixel 3 XL.. I’m using Tracfone/Verizon.

I’m pretty sure Pixel 3’s support VoLTE but I do not have that option to enable it... do you think this has something to do with Tracfone/Setting? I know of other Tracfone users being able to turn VoLTE so Tracfone does support it.

I recently saw another thread where the user's Pixel 3 didn't have the VoLTE setting. Not sure why. I wonder if it depends on which of the big 3 cell networks the Tracfone SIM is using -- maybe the AT&T and T-Mobile SIMs for Tracfone don't have that issue?
