Pixel 3 Scratch Test from the /r/GooglePixel Reddit

I was browsing Reddit and saw this post. A guy went in and went kinda hard on a Pixel and was able to constantly wipe it off / away so it may not really be an issue.

I've never used a screen protector and I've never had even a micro scratch on the screen of any phone I've ever had. With that fact in mind and considering that the entire phone is now Gorilla Glass 5, I'm considering not using a case this time.

The only issue I can see when not using a case would be the "gripability" of the phone while handling it.

Maybe it's just me. But if I am spending 1100 for a phone (which I am) It's going in a case.

Gorilla glass 5 breaks easy when dropped.

Already had to replace the screen on the OL S8+...

The screen will scratch (as it is glass after all).... It I guess it just depends on how you use it and what environment you expose it to.

Your comment, Mike, caused me to call Google Fi.

In the past I've always bought from the Google Store and purchased Google Care. When you buy from Google Fi you can only add their $7 a month protection.

The Google Fi rep told me that the Google Fi protection works the same way as the Google Store and if they determine that it is a physical problem and must be replaced, they ship the replacement immediately.

The biggest difference from Google Care is that you can maintain the Google Fi protection for as long as you want and I don't believe you can do that after the second year passes with Google Care.

Yes, both the front and back of the phone are now glass. All it would take is one fumble fingered drop and it shatters! I'm going to go ahead and order the Google My Case from the Google Store that I've been looking at.

Good to know for Fi users. I probably won't keep the 3XL for 2 years but definitely not more than 2. I wonder if the warranty is transferable to the next owner or if they refund the unused portion

It's hard with technology and the wear on a battery for me to keep a phone over 2 yrs.
They go to the wife, or in a drawer.
Or I sell them.

My brother has only owned 2 smartphones since 2010, a Droid Incredible he replaced due to a weak battery (after 4 years) and a 2013 Moto X I sold him in 2014 that he's still running (now at 5 years). So they're more than capable.

I'm on the phone all the time.
I'm charging my it all the time.

Want a new phone.
They get better signals and operate faster.
Have bettery life.
When I did work for Sprint, I would buy 4r 5 phones a yr.
When a new one came out.
Store mgrs. Made deals for me.
I gave the old phones to people who needed them.
Sprint got new customers.

Don't keep stuff till it's worn out.

And scratches quite easy. I always tried not to use a screen protector, but after the first few scratches I always installed one.
