Pixel 3 XL - Activate E-Sim without physical Sim Card

[Android Central Question]

Hi all, I just received my new Pixel 3 XL but unfortunately found out it cannot detect the Sim card. Before I return the phone I thought I might just give E-sim a try and hoping it can still use E-sim's network data.

I am from Malaysia and my local Telco does support E-sim on Pixel 3. The problem is without physical Sim when I go into Mobile network setting there all options are grey out and unable to choose add Carrier.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The first Pixel 3XL I got had a fault and didn't recognise the sim card either. The shop replaced it.

I would contact your carrier. In the meantime work on an exchange

I also had issue with my pixel 3xl not reading the sim and they exchanged it with a new one
