VZ is the master of making deals that look very appealing until you see all the stipulations. Buying unlocked at a somewhat higher price almost always saves in the long run.

That is why I am really hoping the rumor that Best Buy is secretly going to match this deal on Thursday and Friday is true. Best Buy will actually do the right thing and take $400 off the retail price instead of Verizon's nonsense.

Here's the fine print in the press release:

All promotional device offers require device payment purchase or 2 yr agreement. Promotional savings purchased on device payment will be applied as a promo/trade-in credit to account over 24 mos.; credits end when device balance paid or line terminated/transferred; 0% APR. Trade-in device must be in good working and cosmetic condition. Restrictions apply.

Doesn't say anything about new line required or restricted to certain plans. Will require two years to receive full promo benefit.

If BB does that it would certainly require activation on VZ, but it still would be a better deal.

FWIW, when I bought my P2XL in March, taking advantage of a Best Buy $400 discount offer, the deal was based on a $100 instant Best Buy price reduction plus a pass-through of Verizon's own $300 billing credit spread over 24 months. Maybe this time the entire $400 discount will be in the form of an instant price reduction, but I wouldn't count on it.

IDK. There's nothing on the BB sales page to indicate this. It looks like a straight 24-mth payment discount, so I wouldn't count on balance due reflecting the discount. Here's the "payment options" fine print on the BB website:

I just purchased. Under the device agreement from Verizon it showed the $400 as a device down payment. You can put it in your car and verify this before submitting payment. It's the last check box you have to select before hitting submit payment.

Thanks for the tip re: the Google Stand sale, I just ordered one to go with the black Pixel 3 I just ordered through Google (no Verizon for me, I love my T-Mobile) at $649. Including sales tax the stand was $35.54 Looks like the stand will arrive a week after the phone though, but that's OK.
