Pixel 3XL where do downloaded photos go?

When downloading photos in my Pixel 3XL they are not in the file or in my Google photos account. Where have they gone?

I have a new Pixel 3 XL. I have downloaded images and only a couple of the photos appeared as being on my device. Six never showed up in the file app or in my Google Photos. Where have they gone?

Welcome to Android Central! If you're using the Google app to search for and download images, go to Settings>Apps, select Google, then Permissions, then make sure Storage permission is turned on. If it isn't, then any images you download using the Google app will go to a protected system directory that doesn't show up in Google Photos or any other gallery app. When you turn on Storage permission, then files are downloaded to the standard /Download directory.
