Pixel 4 Front looks Exactly like a Samsung S9 Plus

I don't want gesters or facial recognition either.
Will have to paint the camera side toward me with artist brush if I got one
It's Hell when people making the phones gives you what you don't want.
And what you do want they don't put on.
Where the heck do they get the people making the phones.
The federal government.

Both the phone and auto makers seem to have that same logic anymore. It's like they do the exact opposite of what the people keep asking for

For me slim to no bezels has nothing to do with aesthetics nor being a gimmick. It's about a larger screen and a smaller form-factors.

No it's not. You used bezels up until two years ago. You didn't even know you needed a phone with a full screen because it wasn't even a conversation.

It's not opinion, it's fact that these smaller to o bezel phones are harder to use, and glass back phone shatter where ABS plastic and metal ones, do not.

it's physics, square centimeters to hold a phone matter. It's more difficult to use a hand held device of any kind, when the space you can place you hands is limited. That applies to phones, handguns, hair spray, steering wheels, literally anything held in the hand is easier to use when you can get more of your hand on it.

Whats the point you are trying to make? Premium phones are made of glass, that's the world we live in. Same for no bezels. And things are going to get even more bezeless as years pass by. Google not doing it because they are behind, not because they are the geniuses that have it all figured out lol.

Just look at the future, 10 or 20 years from now, you see bezels in where technology advancement is going? Heck no. From TVs to laptops, and computer screens, all be just simply screens. Phones are just leading the charge.

I'd much rather have some bezels than the notch that I look at on my current 3XL. I ha e used the iPhone X as well and would prefer a full bezel up top to house those sensors and cameras as well. Whoever thought notches and ears were a good idea must have been smoking something good.

I stopped reading after the first sentence...when you claimed to know what my opinion was despite me stating otherwise.

Everything you just said is your own personal taste and have no basis in fact, at all.

When the iPhone 7 came out, not a ingle person anywhere said it was ugly. ALL phones had bezels.

It was pure market hype to sell phones from companies with falling sales, who needed a gimmick to sell.

No bezels are the new premium feel. No bezels makes you have accidental screen touches, and premium feel got us glass backs with phones that shatter constantly.

Some of my post was my opinion. Never said it was fact :P

And it wasn’t pure market hype...there were many consumers who did want a device with a larger screen without being physically bigger. The result? Thinner bezels.

However, your post also contains much of your own opinion, not fact. I’ve dropped my glass backed phone a few times...it hasn’t shattered.

Nonsense. First you call somebody else’s opinions false (even though I never said it was fact), then you vehemently disagree with them by claiming to know what they were thinking, then you go on a rant and label your opinion as truth? Give me a break. When I got my phone with bezels I did wish for slimmer bezels/more screen amongst other things. I suspect others did as well. You’re not a telepath, so stop acting like one.

Your opinions is your opinion...don’t label it as fact. Phones have glass backs for wireless charging. You might not want glass backed phones...but guess what, many consumers do. If you are really clumsy just use a case would be my advice as they add thickness/width. If all-screen/slim bezel phones were as hard to use as you claim they wouldn’t have sold well.

And your last paragraph is laughable. When the part of the phone you use and touch the most to actually do something is the screen, having ultra thick bezels isn’t that useful. Bezels can be useful to an extent but your claim that phones with slim bezels are harder to use is entirely your opinion, not fact.

Your entire post is hilariously flawed. Next time you try forming an argument, try not to be a hypocrite or pretend you can read minds...good luck :P

While I don't think they want an 'ultra thick bezel', I do agree that having a small one does help with holding the device, and trying to use it with one hand. I get false touches with my Note 5 because there is nothing for a side for my palm to rest. My Pixel 3 doesn't get those as often because of the non touch responsive edge that isn't supposed to take a touch input.

The no bezel thing is getting to the point where even a 5.2" screen size phone needs to be held with 2 hands, because the fingertips need to be on the near non existent depth side of the phone.

While I'd like to see bezels again, I agree that they don't need to be large; just something there.

While I wouldn’t sacrifice the current all screen design (waterdrop and punch hole) for bezels, I would gladly use a phone with slim bezels (like on the S9 or even Pixel 3...the Pixel and iPhone 6 bezels aren’t slim).

The only area where I would gladly join the ‘war on bezels’ is on the side. Even if the display is flat the screen should really extend all the way to the edge of the phone in my opinion (e.g no side bezels shown on flat screen Huawei P30 and curved screen Samsung S10).

I mentioned ‘ultra thick bezels’ because @slave was pursuing an entirely hypocritical and unreasonable argument. Phones have screens. Hair spray doesn’t.

I stopped reading after the first sentence...when you claimed to know what my opinion was despite me stating otherwise.

I failed to see when you used an opinion. You stated that it was not your opinion, as in the aesthetics and proceed to use a technical aspect, which is the screen ratio.

The screen ratio is a technical spec, in absence of bezels. See how that works? Screen to body ratio isn't a limitation to anything. The same sized screen with bezels is the same sized screen with no bezels. It will function the same.

The only exception is over all size.

The screen minus the bezels is a style choice.

You told me your opinion wasn't the driving factor, since you said it wasn't, so we can talk about technical stuff. That's how message boards work.

Hypocrite? Did you use the wrong term?

Hey, I have a question.... Indulge me......What part of your phone is touched the most? Pick up your phone and hold it...... It seems to me that your finger that taps the screen is not in constant contact, unlike the other had that actually HOLDS THE PHONE.

Maybe you are magic, and your phone floats in front of you, I don't know. I have seen a lot of cool stuff in my life, but one finger tip pressing the screen doesn't touch more than the constant and continuous contact required to hold the device in the first place.

In my case, my left hand will old the phone to my ear, or it rests in my palm to type, my fingers wrap around the sides.

When I am gaming, I hold it in landscape and press with my thumbs.

No matter what, the screen is not touched continually. I don't know how, or why your screen is touched more than the back, or sides, but I would love to see this floating phone! Can you post a video? I would pay to see it.

So, let's close this opinion vs fact that you confused....

It's fact that more surface area to hold a device makes the device easier than less surface area.

It's opinion that smaller bezels look better.

It's fact that bezel size has zero impact on the function of a screen. It is a fact that smaller side bezels as well as smaller top bezels give you less surface area to touch to avoid touching the screen.

It is a fact that glass backs on phones break with less effort than the plastic and metal ones (since you brought up what you think the direction of phones is heading).

Are we clear now? Please, one last thing..... hyopcrite?? LOL!!! What are you even talking about?

While I will make a brief exception to point out that sharing my reasons for enjoying slim bezels absolutely is an expression of my opinion (despite you thinking you know better about my reasoning), I generally try to avoid interacting with arrogant condescending people on message boards. It's not worth my time or effort so I'll be moving on...

A few points in reply to a post that (unsurprisingly, but I’m disappointed nonetheless) didn’t take my advice on how to form an argument properly without making the author appear to be an unreasonable clown:

1. I stand by my comments. I didn’t say that glass backed phones are harder to break than plastic, I said that it is a requirement for wireless charging that many consumers find useful, and advised you to use a case if you wanted extra protection. No issue here.

2. It is your (and others’) opinion that having less bezel makes the phone harder to hold. It is also my (and others’) opinion that an all-screen phone like the S10e or one with slim bezels like the S9 is pretty easy to hold and use. We both disagree with each other. But at the end of the day, IT’S OPINION.

3. To counter your point, if you want thick bezels both on the top and the side because you are unable to hold a phone with slim or no bezels, the screen will be smaller than on a phone with the same dimensions. So a phone with thick bezels with (for example) a 6.2. inch screen will be way bigger than an all screen phone or one with slim bezels to the point where it is near unusable.

Try using and holding an iPhone 8 Plus against a Google Pixel 3. The former has thick bezels and the latter thin...the screen size is the same. Then tell me which is easier to hold and use, especially with one hand.

4. The logic behind all screen/slim bezel phones is the same as the one with 16:9 vs 18:9 aspect ratios. Whether you like it or not in the current market all screen/slim bezel phones sell well...ones with thick bezels don’t. If an all-screen/slim bezel design wouldn’t be popular or practical phones like the S8 or iPhone XR wouldn’t have sold well...but they DID and people loved them.

5. I may disagree with you but I’m pretty sure you can read (please correct me if I am wrong, I’ll edit this section accordingly). I said “the part of the phone you use and touch the most to actually do something” is the screen. Note the bold part of my sentence. Touching the non-screen area of the phone hardly does anything (except buttons). The screen is used to perform 99% of actions.

Reading it slowly and out loud might help you understand it better. If that doesn’t work try repeating the sentence several times at a slower pace....that’s it....you’re doing well, nearly there....understand the sentence now? :P

6. I called you (to be more specific I should have called your posts) hypocritical because you called my opinion false and say that I claimed it was fact (which is false). Ok. But then you claim to know what others were thinking 2 years ago. And to top it all off you go and label your opinion (which I entirely respect but they are not facts ) as fact. Hypocritical indeed.

I’ll leave it to the others on this thread to decide who’s being unreasonable. I’m trying very hard not to directly insult anybody...@mods if I’m breaking any rules pls tell me and I’ll edit my post accordingly.

So... How 'bout all them cases that give a bit more edge/bezel type surface to better hold the phone, huh?

Mod note. Please guys, keep the discussion civil and on topic. Let's discuss the topic and not the people. We don't want this thread being closed, right? :)

Getting back to the original topic, I already mentioned this problem:

Well there are only so many ways you can build a rectangular phone.

After watching an unboxing video of the coming Asus ROG Phone 2 and noticing that it comes in something similar to a triangular prism box, it gave me an idea. Screw these basic rectangular phones. We need more sides! 3 sides, 4 sides, 10 sides? And every one with either a screen or dedicated function!

But seriously, there's only so much designers can do to differentiate them visually while still remaining functional. It's not just for phones too. Look at something like a camera. Point and shoot cameras all a certain look. DSLR's have a certain look. Mirrorless ILC's have a certain look. Or heck, I almost mistook a Ford Excursion for a Chevy Suburban the other day because they look almost identical from the sides.

There’s this guy on iMore forums who thinks that the Note 10+ is a complete copy of the XS Max design wise. It’s quite funny because the moment you disagree with him or say that Android devices are better in any way (no matter how small) than the iPhone he bombards you with a very long post with links to articles and pictures etc.

He won’t let the argument go either...he’ll go on until you leave the thread or admit defeat. One of the best debaters I’ve seen on a forum (despite the fact that I regularly disagree with him). He doesn’t know when to stop though.

A pyramid shaped phone would be pretty funny @Mooncatt lol
