Pixel 5 under display speaker

Wonder if I could get a sound bar for the P5...

It sounds like it needs it  Good thing it's a small phone, more room in your pockets to carry the speakers it needs lol.
Maybe they should have made it modular like the Moto Z line? ;)

Kidding aside, I did hear it side by side with the Samsung FE and One Plus in a YouTube review and it had by FAR the worst sound. It is a little disappointing. This was the year I was going to upgrade from my 3 year old pixel to the new pixel, I figured they were going to improve upon the 4XL and have a really nice phone I could hang on to for 3 more years. I should have been paying more attention lol.

I do think it's the right phone for the right price for Google right now...... but it's not the right pixel for me. Too small, too boring, and too midrange. I'm starting to think my next phone might be a foldable :D

I'd love to hear some reviews form folks here on the forums. I don't really care about stereo separation on a 6 inch device (that's what my home stereo is for) but I do care about loudness and sound quality for speaker phone, YouTube vids, etc. As long as the bottom firing speaker is decent I'm in. This will be a phone to last me 3 years. . .

Exactly how I feel. I want loud, decent quality. Speakers that are loud are my first requirement. I might end up sending back this year's phone also. Maybe Pixel's aren't for me any longer.

That's what I'm thinking. I took a break from the Pixel, came back with the 5 and already want to move to another phone

I think I'll just move to the iPhone.

Funny you should mention that - have been thinking the same thing. With my old age ears the speaker/sound issues of the P5 have planted a seed of doubt in my Pixel Purchase Plan.

Have an iPhone store in the local mall and would like to look at the iPhone 12 and 12 mini - decided if I wasn't getting a P5 I'd get an iPhone based on the quality of the phone and my love of red.

I have an old iPhone 8 for work and the speaker quality is amazing. I've been anti-iOS for many years for the same reason as others like me. I keep watching to see what Apple does with its software. If they start giving more choice in the OS, and make their file management more like Android/Windows, I'll take a serious look. They're just not quite there yet for my liking.
I might look at the Samsung FE, even though here in Canada it is more expensive than the Pixel 5. Otherwise I'm thinking Pixel 4a 5G.

Especially when you are by yourself. In which case having 2 phones is ideal so you can call yourself up to have an intelligent discussion. You can really learn a lot from yourself if you just listen to who's talking.

I feel like I need a trail of breadcrumbs to understand this! But I've just started on my second cup of coffee for the day, so there is still hope for me, yet!

I read quite a few reviews on this phone and nobody really complained about the top speaker for calls, just said it was tinny for music and video, which I could care less about. I just need it to be good with calls and that's fine, so this is concerning but considering so many reviewers from all the publications really never pointed the speaker out as an issue during calls, not sure what to think. All it takes is a couple comments from some internet randos and people run with the gossip

All good points. I'd like to try the speakers out in store but with COVID I'm not sure that's possible.

As soon as the phone is available in a best buy or AT&T store near me I'm going to go test it out next to my P4XL

Everyone around here wears masks so that's good

I use a bluetooth 95% of the time, so I will not be cancelling like others seem to be leaning to or have done.

We have a 4a in our household and compared it with my 2XL. 2XL definitely has a fuller sound and a little louder.

Glad I didn't cancel my pre-order. While the P5 didn't sound the best, it's not a POS that people are making it out to be either. Looking fwd to getting mine hopefully this week!!
I'll wait to judge for myself but I read like 10 reviews of the pixel 5 on major tech sites and they all noted that the pixel 5 top speaker was inferior but it was fine for most people's usage aka not using your phone speakers as your main music source. These people posting a comparison by recording a pixel 5 vs another pixel in a store while doing so on another phone that has so many variables to it depending on the recording quality of that phone, how the phone is held, etc... I think are doing us all a disservice.

I've had mine for over a week and I honestly can't say the speakers bother me at all. I watch loads of YouTube videos and the sound is really not that bad. Had an S20 before this and the sound was better, but not so much that I miss it. If I want decent quality, for music etc, I stick the headphones on.

I'm not buying the device but for me speakers are not necessarily a deal breaker as long as the sound is passible. I rarely use my speakers to play music or videos.

I agree with this completely.

I used the phone for a few days before RMAing it because of battery overheating issues.

The sound isn't *great* for listening to media etc, but it is bearable. I did find myself sometimes having to change my grip so that my finger didn't muffle the bottom speaker because the top one sure cant hold its own. What I had real issues with though is hearing phone calls. Seriously sounds like those tin can phones I played with as a kid. Distant and tinny. As soon as there was background noise I found myself switching to speaker so I could listen through the bottom speaker.

I need a water resistant phone, otherwise I'd have swapped for a 4a on the basis of this alone.
