Pixel 5 under display speaker

I see a few posts here but I can't hear you ..what ya sAy ? stupid joke aside happy to see positive reviews from our members...

There is no problem with the speaker. I believe this "issue" only came up because someone realized that the P5 had an in-display speaker and set out to find problems with it. The speaker isn't a 10, more like a solid 7, but if you listened to it in-call or used as a speakerphone without knowing this, you'd not notice any issues.

Can only speak for myself but that's not how it went down for me. It was more finding myself repeatedly mashing at volume up during phone calls and trying to find quiet spaces while holding my hand over my other ear so I could actually hear the call. It'll be interesting to see if it is phone, ear or situation dependent...or something random like whether you sport a beard. I've never needed to crank my phone's volume in the past and I'm happy with my new s20fe's volume set at about 30%.

I had more than a normal number of phone conversations on my new Pixel 5 yesterday, mainly with family members and friends conveying Thanksgiving wishes from various locations around the country. While the volume during one call -- which coincidentally happened to be from the most distant location -- was relatively weak, all of the others sounded loud and clear.

As I said before, I don't doubt or dispute the reports from some users that they have found the sound volume or quality on the Pixel 5 to be inadequate. It might be due to manufacturing variations in the particular devices, or the device or location of the person on the other end of the call, or simply subjective individual judgments. Ultimately, as someone else observed, many users are satisfied with the sound on the Pixel 5, but some are not.

My only point is this: To any readers who are considering the Pixel 5 and looking for advice or information from postings here to help guide their purchase decisions, the fact that different people are reporting different experiences suggests that you should test the phone yourself before categorically dismissing it based on opinions about sound quality.

If anyone looking to buy the pixel 5 , I've it the 2 week trial , and if not satisfied return it . Store hands on won't be enough to test it through different scenarios.

I would say that the call speaker is the worst part of this phone. It's not terrible, but it's not great either.

I have 0 issues with the top speaker with exception of it not sound great to build the stereo sound effect like previous pixel devices. Curious to see how this feature improves the sound.

Played around with both the 5 and 4A today at Best Buy and I definitely do notice the difference in audio. The 5 does sound very tinny and at max volume on both devices the 4A is definitely louder and clearer.

Not a deal breaker for some.

I have so much optionitis between these two devices. I like the smooth display and slightly bigger screen on the 5 but I love the better speaker quality and headphone jack on the 4A (plus also willing to rock the latter naked/caseless or with a skin).

Why can't these two get married and have a baby Pixel 5 Pro? :P

For voice like phone calls and GPS direction it's fine. But for music it does sound tiny and unclear. My P3 speakers are clearly better than the P5. It's not a deal breaker for me though with everything else I like about the 5. I like using headphones for music and video anyway.

It's not bad at all , trust me I would mention it :)

I'm with Mustang on this. I just came off a 6 year old Nokia Icon and find the Pixel 5 speaker more than adequate. Bose stereo it's not. For an under display speaker I find it does quite well. I can hear the phone fine driving a Mack 18 wheeler all day. Ooops, I mean when I'm stopped, yeah umm stopped I mean, that's when I tested it.

Now with adaptive sound with December update , pretty cool.
