Pixel 5A Verizon cannot receive (some) texts!?

The issue is chat features. You need to turn that off on old phone first.

I’m just delivering the overall VZW message. As of now, VZW isn’t activating the Pixel 5a for a new line on an existing or new account.

For the record, the Pixel 5a IMEIs when run in the VZW system shows the phone as non-compatible and can’t be officially activated or supported in the VZW system.

Even if you get a 5G sim card?

When I got my 5a from the Google Store I couldn't use the sim card from my Pixel 2XL since it wasn't a 5G sim card. I took my phone to Verizon. They installed a new 5G compatible sim card, switched my phone number to the new sim card and everything's been fine.

You seem to be saying Verizon won't activate a Pixel 5a phone on their network? Is this what you are saying?

Correct. I’ve had no problem activating 5G service plan on AT&T or TMO for testing out service but no go on VZW even in-store.

My 5a phone works on Verizon. Bought it unlocked from the Google store, brought it to Verizon, they installed a SIM card and I'm good to go.

I was a current Verizon customer and kept my phone number. I was not trying to activate a new service plan.

I'm finding it hard to believe the 5a doesn't work on Verizon.

It works! My issue was chat features! Also, Verizon's map lies. There is no 5g in my area. Went to Baton Rouge over the weekend and it would pick up 5g.

I'm saying, as potential VZW customer with (12) lines between AT&T, TMO and Google Fi, I couldn't get a VZW in-store sales rep able to provision a VZW single line account with the Pixel 5a that I own.

What reason did the VZW tech give you for failing to set up the 5a with service? Perhaps there is something wrong with your 5a?

I popped the Sim out of an unlocked pixel 3A and it worked fine other than text messages. Called Verizon support and the Sim was 5 years old. They said try a new Sim go to nearest Verizon store. I gave my phone number and left with a new Sim..... Make sure you are going to a corporate site owned by Verizon and not a 3rd party Verizon store!

I don't have a VZW account. To setup account, VZW requires an officially supported device. The Pixel 5a doesn't pass the IMEI check as officially supported device. I could purchase a VZW device and move SIM cards but that could also be accomplished by a VZW rep grabbing an IMEI override which some do and some don't. That's how VZW handles BYOD still for new accounts.
