The camera on my Pixel 6 has either crashed/locked up and the phone will re start on its own or just freeze with a black screen, I am still under my return period. I spoke with Google which stated that this is a known issue and an update is coming in December and to roll back the update to the camera to prevent the problem which it has so far . Everything else about the phone has been great , not sure if I should send it back for a replacement . Anyone else with this issue, I googled it and found a couple cases on Reddit

I would immediately start the warranty replacement process. From experience I can tell you it may take a while. You can always cancel the return/replacement over an online chat. Google's procedure is to do a return for a refund and then to do a new order. The hiccup in the process is available new units for your replacement. My Pixel 5 sh!t the bed after less than 12 hours and replacing it became quite the saga. I ended up changing my replacement to a straight return/refund and buying another Pixel 5 on this forum's Marketplace.

If you go this route you must scrutinize the return/refund documentation for things like a $35 restocking fee. I had to initiate another online chat to get this charge reversed. How can they justify charging you a "restocking fee" for taking back a faulty phone? I got mine reversed easily, but I had to ask.

If you can live without the camera for a while it may be just as quick to hold it for the December update. The alternative may be to live without a phone for a month. Of course it may be different with your Pixel 6 vs my Pixel 5. The 5 had already been discontinued and Google apparently didn't have a new one to send me. Hard to believe, but it never happened.

My tale of woe can be found here: https://forums.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-5/1029527-pixel-5-sold-out.html
I don't think this will happen with a new Pixel 6 exchange, but be cautious. While the CS Reps on the online chats are all aces, their hands are tied with supply constraints so there is only so much they can do.

Had the same thing on my P6. I had to go to the play store and uninstall the Google camera app (it doesn't remove the camera).

It then prompted me to "update", still on the play store. Opened up the app and it works like a charm... Let me know if it helps.....

Awesome! If there is a fix that works to get the camera back up and running without returning it or waiting for a *possible* update in a month, definitely try that before going through the exchange/return hullabaloo I did.

Agree!!!! I literally tried everything first (FR, clear cache, etc.)....This was last resort. I hope it helps....
