I read the below post on one of the threads here. Please tell me that is not true. I have 4 xl now and Storage Saver option is free and unlimited.

"I'm pretty sure regardless of whether you choose original quality or storage saver, any photos saved using the 6/6Pro count against your 15GB."

Can someone with 6 pro or 6 confirm please?

Here is what my 4 xl says (screen shot)Screenshot_20211113-214058.jpg

Pixel 6 and 6 pro count towards your storage regardless of which back up quality you chose. It no longer is free storage.

I'm transferring my photos from the pixel 6 pro to my pixel 3a spare phone via nearby share and letting it upload from the pixel 3a retaining my free back up and keeping auto backup turned off on the pixel 3a. I have a friend that is doing the same with a pixel 1 which let's him do the same but even better he gets to keep the photos and videos at the unlimited quality for free.

My Microsoft 365 subscription includes one terabyte of OneDrive cloud storage. When I then add the OneDrive app to my Pixel 6 Pro, I'm given the option of having automatic, real-time image storage on OneDrive. And obviously its original quality.

I've done this for many years and love the reliability. Because of OneDrive, I also have no need for any more than 128GB storage on my Pixel 6 Pro.

Yes I gave my son my 4A5G and had my Pixel 2 XL back which I am now exclusively using to backup my Pixel 6 photos to Google Photos so I keep my free storage saver.

Works great imho. I have done it weekly but I'll probably wait until I have like a good 40-45gb of media before I do my next backup since the pixel 3a has 49gb of free storage.

So if you are backing up to another site ( above is Microsoft OneDrive ), or if you are sending it to an older Pixel, how do you have the settings set up on the Pixel 6??? Are you saving anything from the Pixel 6 to Google at the time of the picture?
Thanks

Both OneDrive and Google are currently actively saved at the same time. When/if Google stops saving at original resolution, I will turn it OFF and just use OneDrive storage as it, of course, is always stored at original resolution.

I like using OneDrive because, as with Google, I don't have to think about storage. It just automagically uploads to OneDrive the instant I take a photo.

It was an amazing perk while it lasted, but I think reality caught up with Google. Storage costs them money, and with the increasing size of the files (particularly videos, with more and more 4K videos being saved), it was inevitable that the perk was going away.

When my NordVPN subscription expires in April, I plan to start subscribing to the 2 TB Google Drive plan, since that comes with Google's own VPN (which has gotten good reviews from security people). $99/year is pretty good for a ridiculous amount of storage AND a trusted VPN, when you consider that NordVPN alone retails at $144/year (although if you pay for a full year at a time, there's usually a discount -- currently it's $59/year).

I have the same OneDrive option, but I'll lose the extras I get Google Photos if I use OneDrive (mostly the ability to to view my photos with my spouse and vice versa). Grrr.

I'm at 4.49GB of 17GB Google free storage, so it will take a while before I have to think about it. I may use this time to see if I like what Microsoft has to offer.

Exactly what I do. I've never used the Google storage option as OneDrive always backs them up at original quality. At one time Microsoft was offering an incentive to store your photos there and I think that's how I have 1.15 terabyte capacity now. All I do is tell the OneDrive app to back my photos and it does so immediately.

OneDrive has the option to share an individual photo or an entire folder. You can share with named individuals, or you can share with everyone.

I've been doing it that way too. They've made many enhancements over the years.

I also backup to OneDrive and the Amazon Photos as well.

I am backing up monthly to my 2xl. I have the photos in folders marked Snerd 1, Snerd 3 etc and so I backup what is new and not duplicating stuff then I delete all photos except the few so want to keep on my phone and start again.

I guess I am in the minority. I just pay Google $19.99/year ($1.67/mo) and I should have plenty of space for now given my historic pattern of Google space usage. I'll jump to the $29.99 plan when it becomes necessary.
