Pixel 6a

After setting up and playing with my wife's P6a I'm beginning to think about getting one for myself. I love the size. It would replace my Pixel 6 Pro for all use except maybe the camera and only if I need the telescoping lens. Since Google is still offering a $300 trade-in and we have her P4a to trade..I mean why not. Now to convince the wife to give up her P4a backup phone. I love walking on a tightwire. 🫣

This sounds awesome! Let us know what happens!

I was going to say you're treading on thin ice my man... and I'm not far behind you :p I'm about ready to pick up a 6a for my wife, I've prepped her best I can lol. She seems okay with it since I told her it's just a backup... little does she know her ancient phone will be the "true" backup  lol. Actually, who am I kidding... she's my wife. She knows...

I might be a goner :p

After setting up and playing with my wife's P6a I'm beginning to think about getting one for myself. I love the size.

My wife got a new 6a about three weeks ago, trading in her Pixel 2XL. I also was pleased with the size as it was easier to handle and type with. However, I like the size of the screen on my 5a. I think the 5a hits the sweet spot of size vs. handleability. <--new word I just made up. I suppose the 6 Pro is bigger than my 5a.

She also got a new job last week and as part of her employment she needed to pass an FBI security clearance. The company has issued her an iPhone and a laptop for work related things, apparently the iPhone is primarily for 2 factor authentication when logging onto their servers with the laptop. Bottom line is she doesn't like the iPhone. In fact I think she said she hated it. It's not intuitive, she complained. Meanwhile, she loves her 6a. Could be she's accustomed to the Pixel environment and isn't familiar with the iPhone. Time will tell.

I got an email from google telling me today is the last day for the $300 off trade in deal on a 6a.
Was thinking of waiting for the seven but this is certainly tempting. I have a 4a I could trade in for $300.
Did anyone go from a 4a to a 6a and how did you like the upgrade? I’m pretty torn between doing this and waiting for the 7. But today is decision day.

I used the promotion and traded in my girlfriend's 4a for the 6a. She was happy with the 4a but dropped it in water and it took several days to get working again. I wasn't confident it works continue to work, however. Google had just started the promotion so I ordered her the 6a and with the trade in. It also came with a pair of Pixel Buds A. She's very happy with the 6a and I think it's a nice upgrade. It's a tad bigger than the 4a if that matters to you and no fingerprint sensor on the back. I have the Pixel 6 Pro, which I'm very happy with. But for some reason I really enjoy using her 6a perhaps even more than my Pro. I'm sure the Pixel 7 will be very nice but it's likely going to cost more than the $150 the 6a will cost with the trade in. Good luck!

I can understand the burn of your predicament! That is definitely a worthwhile and tempting deal. What did you decide?

After watching some more review videos of the 6A I decided to wait to see what the 7 brings to the table. Hate to pass up a good deal like this but I'm also ready for something a bit higher end after using the 4A for a couple of years. Still depends on what the 7 has to offer, so I'll be checking it out once released.

I totally agree with you. I too am waiting on the 7 line for a more high-end phone. I love my Pixel 5 but I want to see if the 7 line will meet my needs. Hopefully it works out for us!

I've hatched a flawless plan. My wife, coming from the great fingerprint sensor of her Pixel 4a, is having trouble adapting to the fps of the P6a. Today we are going to reset her fingerprints...I of course will sabotage her efforts to the point she gets so made she flings the phone at my head when I'll deftly snatch it in midair before it causes any serious head trauma. She happily go back to her Pixel 4a and I have a new P6a. Brilliant.. right?

Just kidding. I really do want her to be happy with the P6a and will do my best to make her resetting of her fingerprints successful.

I guess I'm not that clever. My wife did her own research on the P6a fps issues and on her own asked if I would be ok if she went back to her P4a. So it is done without injury. I'm now in the process of setting up the 6a to be my P6P replacement.
I'll report my views after using it for a few days.

I know I wrote I would be reporting back after a few days of use but I have to admit that my wife was correct about the P6a fingerprint sensor. It is very problematic. Sometimes it works great and other times not so much. Even after having totally reset it twice and re-entering my prints several times it's still is a hit or miss experience. Touch Sensitivity turned on doesn't seem to help significantly.
Other than that issue (and that is a biggie) I really like everything else about it. I'll give it a few more days before making a final verdict between continuing on with it or back in the box it goes and bringing it out for updates and retesting.

If you can't open a phone, what good is it?

I got lucky in the opposite way....while we were out and near a Best Buy, I mentioned I wanted to stop in for something (lol), and when we went inside I mentioned they were having a sale on pixels, so why don't we take a look and see what she thinks :p I also reminded her about the loss of battery life on her 4 year old Moto G6, and the possibility of more chip shortages and shipping backlogs coming up during the holidays (which is true  ).

Even a non techie likes holding and playing with shiny new toys ;)

She liked the curved screen on the pixel 6 pro, but said it was too big and heavy for her preference, she actually preferred the overall size and weight of the pixel 6a... so I said would you like one, and she said "yep you've convinced me, I'll take black". Mission accomplished lol.

Of course I'm not immune to shiny toys myself, so I picked up a pixel 6 pro as well :D

BTW Smoke we're never as clever as we think we are when it comes to the wives lol.

My wife is the opposite of yours. She won't step foot into Best Buy. Best Buy is to her as garlic is to a vampire (not that I'm comparing my incredible wife to a blood sucker).
I'll be curious how the fingerprint sensor of the 6a works out for your wife.
I've been working on the sensor and I think the issue might be originating from the glass screen protector on the 6a. I have entered multiple variations and it seems to be working ok. I'll take off the screen protector sometime in the next few days and see if there is any major improvement. Regardless of the outcome I'm sticking with this phone as there is a lot more to like than dislike.

The only time my wife goes into Best Buy is with me... she humours me because she loves me lol. I'll let you know how her fingerprint sensor works when I set it up for her. Unfortunately she's in no rush to start using it, but if I completely set it up for her and stick it in her hot little hand she'll embrace it ;)

I thought I'd been reading that the 6a fingerprint sensor was working quite well for most overall? I would be highly suspect of the glass screen protector.. I've read too much about them affecting in-screen sensors on all brands of phones. Overall the 6a quite impressed me, I was tempted to get myself one because of the bang for the buck and size.. but my eyes aren't quite what they used to be, and I've gotten used to the bigger screens, so pro it was :D

LOOL I love this story!

I am the tech junkie in the relationship, so I have to try and convince my husband to look at phones for himself or kind of mention that the time *may* be nigh for Wifey to get a new phone! 😁

I'm sure I'm one of the older members here (point of reference: I saw The Beatles perform live at Busch Memorial Stadium in 1966) and my eyesight is definitely not what it used to be so on the P6a I have the display set for the Reader's Digest Large Print version. Screenshot_20220829-135703.jpg

"Reader's Digest Large Print version".. love it lol. I'm not exactly fresh out of the oven myself (although seeing the Beatles live is something very special you lucky dog ;) ), so I also crank the font and display sizes up, that plus the bigger screens let me use my phones without having to get out the ole' reading glasses

It's a very neat feature to have on our little "pocket pc's". My dad can't use a smart phone, I wish he could because I could customize it way better for him than his flip phone :-\
