Hi folks,

Looking forward to the 8s!

Question to those who've gotten past Pixels directly from Google. Does anything need to be done to have the phone run on Verizon? Is it just a matter of slipping my P6P's SIM card into the new phone?

TIA

This will be my 4th (?) Pixel purchased through Google, all running in vzw. Always just moved the sim card over, fine through the phone set up and good to go. Never had an issue (knock on wood).

I gave my SIL a 6a when it came out and his old Verizon SIM worked fine...He has a crap plan from his Dad but it works fine. They pay for minuscule Data but they can't be bothered to change...

I was glad to see in renders that the 8 still has a SIM slot, otherwise I may have skipped it.

Thanks firebirder. This will be my fourth Pixel, too, but first bought from Google (I want the free watch )

I'm still running the same sim card that I originally got when I bought my Moto X Pure Edition back in 2015. I had to get a new nano sim for it because my micro wouldn't fit, otherwise I'd still probably be using that 😉

I've swapped it into every phone since then, all factory unlocked on AT&T, with never a problem. I like old tech 😄

That's what I do every time. Buy unlocked from the Google Store using Google Credit with 0% financing. I insert my old SIM and sometimes have to install the app for the carrier but it works great.

I love my watch 1.. Dunno why it gets so much hate. Looking forward to the Watch 2.
Exact same for me. I've had zero issues. I'm getting the (wifi) Watch 2 with my P8 Pro, and will end up selling one of them as I've no need for two, but honestly will probably just sell the 2 as I'd guess it'll draw $100 to $150 over the 1, being both NIB and the new model, and I don't know that I'd really appreciate the difference enough to outweigh that.

Much easier to justify upgrading the phone more regularly than the wearable for me.

Folks I have another question on this topic.

Previously, when ordering Pixels through Verizon, I would activate the new phone and see it on my device list in the Verizon website. How will that work now? Will Verizon some "see" that the SIM is now in a Pixel 8 Pro?

I assume Verizon has a BYOD program and accepts unlocked phones. If the device is on their acceptable list it will use the IMEI and SIM# to identify it and it should show up in the app but I would call Verizon and ask. In the past Verizon had restrictions on allowed IMEI numbers.

My hubby has watch 1 he got with his 7 Pro preorder. He really likes it. So he is looking forward to the free watch 2 with my preorder. His watch 1 will then go to my son.

Mine does. I have purchased only unlocked phones for the past several years, several pixels and a oneplus, and the correct phone would always show up on my device list on vzw.

@hannsoft hope you don't mind if I post questions in your thread, relating to my nearly identical situation (on Verizon with a P6P and never had an unlocked phone before and just ordered the P8P unlocked from Google). I didn't want to start a new thread since our situations are basically identical and thought you might have similar questions.

Anyone:

Once I get my new P8P, does Verizon charge the $35 activation fee or is it different with an unlocked phone?

With the SIM card from my P6P in the new P8P, will I still be able to use my P6P for basically anything except calls? Not sure what a phone does without a SIM in place.

Can I put the SIM back in my P6P and use it for calls after activating (not sure if that's the right term for an unlocked phone) my new P8P?

No activation charge and the P6P can be used over WIFI without a sim and you can swap sims without a problem
