Pixel and Dream overheat issues

Anybody having heat issues with the Pixel and Daydream? I noticed at Verizon when tested out over weekend (loved the UI and controller, BTW) with the XL that the device got very hot and noticed the obvious: No vent area for the heat. Surprised this has not been brought up more, though perhaps too early. I then noticed this article. Not sure on the "crippling" part, but VR does tax the chipset and the heat needs to be dissipated, or builds up. Very bad for a battery- especially one that can not be replaced. Perhaps a way to cut out parts of the back to provide ventilation?

I have used my XL with the Daydream Headset but haven't noticed it getting super hot. It does get slightly warm, but nothing that would cause me to worry about damage being done to the device. But that said, it wouldn't surprise me if I just haven't used certain apps that would cause overheating. I will report back if I notice it.

Mine gets hot. Just for the record, an S7edge in GearVR will force the phone to kill the VR app in as little as 15 minutes. This isnt a Pixel issue. VR is extremely taxing.

I used it for over an hour today and the phone was only registering at 103 degrees when I took it out. Not bad. My turbo would get to 125 degrees just being connected to Bluetooth.

This has actually been brought up by literally everyone that has one.

I got to test the Daydream out at Verizon with a stock device (one of the sales reps). The three things I noticed:

1. IMO a great UI
2. Loved the controller (House of the Dead style games and shooters would rock)
3. The Pixel XL was HOT after 15 minutes of playing a game

It seems to make sense considering the heat dissipates out the back and nowhere for it to go with the Daydream headset. I got the S7 as a dedicated VR device with the new Gear VR and after an hour is nowhere as hot feeling as the Pixel XL after 15 minutes. If you are not having heat issues, that is good. My Note 4 with Gear VR was a heat inducing wreck with VR.

None the less, Daydream looks to be a very good system, but needs a design that allows better heat dissipation. Please keep in mind the worst enemy of a battery's capacitance is excess heat. Not good for a device with a non-removable battery.

Mine gets hot, I will check the temp the next time my kids fire it up. My n7's also got as hot as the pixel. I had already considered the style of the daydream to be more prone to heating compared to the gear vr.

Regardless of the questionable headset design, the UI and controller are nice.

I've used mine twice since I just got it, and yes the phone gets warm but I suspect it's as much the brightness being cranked up as anything else. Worse to me than the heat is that it absolutely murders the battery. Goes from 60s to 20s after 30-40 mins

Just got mine today. Did a few short sessions earlier, but tried it a bit more extensively tonight, started at 100%, ran about a 45 minute session that took it to 82%, playing some videos, toying around with Fantastic Beasts, and playing Hunter's Gate (well worth buying!) before it gave me the warning that performance would be diminished and recommending removing the phone to cool down. When I took it out, it was very warm, but not particularly hot. Oh, this was on an XL.

Given you're essentially operating in a 'dark room' when using Daydream, I don't really see any value at keeping brightness cranked. At 60% it was more than bright enough. I'll probably try it a bit lower tomorrow to see if it's 'lacking' and to compare battery drain & time before a heat warning.

I forgot I have adaptive brightness turned on so it was automatically getting brighter. I had assumed it did that by itself in daydream
