Pixel Bluetooth issues

No dice. Turning off battery optimization does nothing.

Got a new car, and guess what?
BT in my old car was the only BT experience that reliably worked.
New car?
Doesn't work well. Skipping.

At this point, isn't it clear that Google has an issue that they don't care to address, or can't address due to inherent problems with the HTC hardware?

As I've said for 6 months now, this is really too bad.
The Pixel is a wonderful phone - phone of the year in fact - but for too many, it can't reliably provide what is now fundamental technology - a BT connection. In 2017, it's simply amazing that something like BT is an unattainable bar for Google.
Maybe not amazing actually, more like embarrassing.

The fix Google implemented is suppose to fix the issue with Bluetooth randomly shutting off. This has happened to me on a consistent basis. It will stay on for a few hours, sometimes days and then just shut off. We'll see if the fix actually works.

There are so many BT issues with the Pixel - this isn't a blanket "fix" whatsoever. I read about this when it first dropped, and this fix attempts to remedy the "BT Shutting Itself Off" issue. It's a server-side fix.

Yeah - my Pixel suffers from that, and it's a PIA for sure. But nothing like the "BT Skipping/Dropping-Out" issue, which persistently makes listening to anything via BT unbearable.

Not the same issue.

Sure wish that Google could figure out BT technology.

Didn't read through entire thread, didn't have a week ;-)
My understanding is BT tech is not set in stone and different protocols being utilized cause problems.
Cars are notorious for their slam bam BT implementation.
Unless there is a "pure" BT directive mandated I don't see a "easy" answer.
Good Luck.

PITA BT issues in car with Pixel XL.
Paired with Sony Experia Z3 [BT v4.0 vs v4.2 with Pixel] works great.
So, yes, I see the problems people have with Pixel BT.
might be 4.2v backward compatibility/LE implementation, at a guess.

Hi,

Google Pixel phone has serious Bluetooth incompatibility issue and the company keeps saying as long as it can connect to at least one device it is not their problem. After six months of struggling of factory resets and replacement under warranty the support team did acknowledge to me that it is a major hardware problem that it cannot communicate with other devices, especially car audio system. Nothing can be done whatsoever to fix the matter.

As part of industry standard it is common practice for Bluetooth connection to not have an issue, especially for a smartphone costing $700 plus. As a standard operating procedure, a hardware compatibility problem should have been checked before selling such defective phones. I wonder what is it that they check as part of quality assurance from Google brand.

I had been using three generations of iPhones before, a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge with my 2013 BMW 528i before switching this poorly made device. Often times, rather each time I reached out to the Project Fi support, every team member asked me to go get the car upgraded. I have had my car inspected under the four year free warranty, however now it would cost me hundreds of dollars to get another diagnosis. I recently tested iPhone 6 with iOS 11 and also iPhone 7 from a friend. This same friend told me that cars are specifically made to be compatible with iPhones on purpose or the car OS is tested for iPhones alone. That does not sound logical to me, since my car is four years old and the other newer phones can talk to it without a flaw.

It shows clearly that Google is not interested in the phone business when there are so many users complaining about one of this fundamental features of what is expected from an advanced smartphone.

I request your help in getting this word out so users stop buying a substandard device based on brand name.

This BT issue is at the bottom of why today is the last day that I'll own a Google phone - and why I cancelled my Pixel 2 pre-order.

I have a 2013 F150 with sync and have no Bluetooth issues at all.

I have a 2013 F150 and sync doesn't even show up on my Google Pixel XL bluetooth screen. I can't get it to connect at all, even though my wife's phone (older android) connects just fine.

I have a 2014 Escape, and 2015 Explorer. Both work with my XL. Try setting the Bluetooth AVRCP to 1.3. See if that helps you. May be since the vehicle is older, it needs the older setting. I would try all the AVRCP settings and see if any of them might work.

Im also giving up on pixel because of connection issues.... My bluetooth is working fine before oreo update.... Hoping that nov update will resolve the issue... But unfortunately not...
And my wifi and LTE is dropping as well....

Im lost finding out what is the issue..
Where my other phone never encountered this...

For the record, I never had any BT streaming issues (in car or BT speakers) until I updated to Oreo. Now I get cut-outs and BT drops virtually every time I try and stream music.

Ever since Oreo my bluetooth is been nothing but a headache. Won't find my car, external speaker or my watch. And when you do connect to it, it drops or cuts out with the music. A real pain is butt because you have to go in and manually find the device all the time. I have soft and hard reset the Pixel many times and still is happening. I am hoping that 8.1 will fix it. Anyone else having the same issues lately?

I'm a little late to the game, just bought a new Pixel XL on Swappa a couple months ago and updated it to Oreo as soon as I activated it (Fi), so I can't say whether it was just on Oreo because I never used it on Nougat. But I've been very unhappy with the Bluetooth performance. It fails to auto-connect with a couple speakers that I use regularly, and even struggles to "force connect" when I go into the BT settings and manually select the device from the list. When I can finally connect it to those speakers, the audio is fine though. Conversely, I have one pair of BT earbuds that it always auto-connects to instantly, but then sometimes the audio skips/cuts out on those headphones. All of those devices worked flawlessly in every way with my LG G6 and Droid Turbo before that.

Fortunately I still have a headphone jack... for now. No way I am upgrading to the Pixel 2 and relying solely on bluetooth (or a dongle). I know the headphone jack is never coming back :( so I'm hoping Google can get their BT act together by the Pixel 3.

After years of Android Samsung phones the Pixel 2 is the first phone to give me these problems. Brand New plantronics Voyager drops, new Amazon Speaker drops, car won't connect and my running headset that has worked with everything drops after 15 seconds. And I can't get the ear buds that cost 150. Horrible experience.
