Pixel C bugs and app issues

Well only took a month to get all my issues worked out, touch issues are gone ... The Nexus 9 languished for almost a year before I could use it without pulling my remaining hair out. The Feb updates seemed to make the tablet closer to what most were expecting (besides the multitasking yadda yadda).

Figured I'd post one last time here on this, if anyone finds this, Feb 2016 sec patch updates fixed a lot of issues with early release Pixel C bugs.

What about Wi-Fi issues? Do you have those issues, too? I'm still looking pretty hard at this, but I'd love to make sure all of the the kinks are officially worked out first.

I've run into a few issues with my Pixel C but none are the most common people are posting (i.e. WiFi speeds, touch input issues, etc.).

First off I'm running factory stock 6.0.1. Updated from 6.0 which is what my Pixel C shipped with.

First was a sound issue: This has since been resolved by booting into recovery and manually clearing the cache. But sound would randomly stop working on my Pixel C. Both through the speakers and the headphones. So if you have this issue, boot into recovery until you see the dead Android. Then press volume up and power at the same time and you should get into the recovery list that gives you the option to clear the cache. That worked for me.

Second: Using the dual USB-C cable that came with my 6P. I tried plugging the phone into the tablet to transfer some files between the two devices without going through a computer. When I plug it in I see the USB options and select file transfer on my 6P however I cannot seem to find anyway to transfer the files. I have ES File Explorer but it doesn't seem to recognize either device. Charging works as advertised(?), but MTP does not. When I select the PTP option, a built-in photo transfer tool pops up that displays the photos I have on my 6P on the Pixel C, but it force closes whenever I try to transfer a file.

Lastly,
Random Power Offs: I've had the Pixel C for over 2 weeks now, but only recently ran into a power off issue. Luckily it's not while using the tablet itself, but rather when I let it sleep for awhile (over night) it randomly powers off completely. This only became an issue when I tried to use the tablet as an alarm clock. Luckily Timely syncs between my devices flawlessly and my 6P managed to go off so I wasn't late for work. But even without an alarm set, the Pixel C will just shut off when not in use for several hours. I'm unsure of the exact time but it's happened over night and while I'm at work.

Anyone else have these issues?

The second one is going to be an issue with all mobile devices. Android file transfer between two android devices will need to be done via bluetooth, wifi or through an intermediary unless you use an OTG accessory.

I've not noticed any speed issues with the Pixel C, that's not to say there may not be issues, however I did quite a bit of testing in December using iperf3 and other devices and have traveled a lot since then with the Pixel C and have never once said or thought, "Sheesh the WiFi speeds are terrible," or couldn't connect to a network.

There's well documented issues people are having where they report poor WiFi signal or lower speeds that other devices connected to the same network, I've seen anecdotal evidence myself too where the Pixel C reports 10-25% less speed than other devices however it's not pervasive enough for me to consider it a deal breaker.

I've had a N7, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012), N9 and now a Pixel C. I can say without hesitation if you're considering a Google or Nexus device the Pixel C is the best.

The original issues with rotation, power off, etc are all cleared up for me, the tablet is used daily at least 3-6 hrs straight as my web browser when I'm at work and I've had no issues since the Feb updates.

It would mostly be used at home, so the wi-fi speed issue wouldn't be a major issue for me most of the time. But, if I travel with it, which I definitely plan on doing, I don't want to have to worry about wi-fi essentially being useless. I'm very happy that they have fixed the other issues, and it appears that they have admitted there is a wi-fi issues, but I don't know if there is a fix coming for it or what.

I'd guess that the WiFi issues are fixable via software, as the Shield Tablets had WiFi issues as well that were introduced with MM and that are now resolved. That leads me to believe that Google will be able to take care of the WiFi on the Pixel as well (and maybe they should talk with nVidia about how they fixed the WiFi on the Shield).

That would be excellent news if they did. I've got my itchy buying trigger finger at the ready...

Honestly it's the best Android tablet out there. The screen is amazing, I didn't think I'd notice but it's great, only the Pixel LS Chromebook is nicer.

In all I don't think you'd be disappointed getting one now.

I've just been waiting on something on the Wi-Fi issue. I may do it regardless. But I'd really like to hear something first.

I also like the idea of this tablet as a replacement for my Nexus 10, but the wifi thing is a deal breaker, since I live in the boonies, want to use my tablet out and about in town and while traveling, but not every place has super strong signal. Waiting to see if Google comes up with a fix!
