Hey everyone, I got a Pixel 2, 2 weeks ago when my Samsung S7 edge died on me.

Anyways, one thing i have noticed, on my Samsung, the photo gallery for Samsung let me take a pic or move a pic from my computer and if i wanted to, I could share them via MMS or Instagram or Facebook.

Now, I had all my pics backed up via Google photos and was nice to see them back on my phone after the Samsung died. But i need help with pictures and what setting i need to change

So if I'm sms'ing my wife and I want to send her a pic from a few years ago, it seems i have 2 options. I could share the pic from Google photos which sends her a link to our Google photos app or in the Android Messages, I click on gallery and like NON of my photos are there.

Same with Facebook or Instagram, I go to post an old pic and it's not in the gallery per say to easily get to.

Very frustrating to say the least. What options do i have to change to have my pics reside on my phone? I know it takes up space and i don't care.

I have 2xl, and in stock Android messages, when I press gallery (after the plus (+) sign... in the top left corner the 3 dashes (lines) appear and when I select that it opens a menu and from there I select the google photos icon...from there I can select from all my photos. Not sure if this helps or not.

There's another thread about this where I provided screenshots showing how to access your Photos.

That worked. But what about from Facebook or Instagram? If I'm in the said app, and I want to post a pic, or respond to a comment with a pic, I can't figure that out.

I don't have FB, but IG start your post as you would normally then upper right hand corner you'll probably see the word Gallery with small triangle next to it. Click that, then "other".

For Facebook...In Google photos, you have to select the photo and then press the three dots upper right and "save to device". Then you will see it available in gallery on Facebook.

Yeah, my wife is quite aggro at the need to download those pics... It'd be nice if you could go direct from Photos to FB. But that would mean Facebook has free reign over the entire catalog of pictures and videos stored up in the cloud.

Yeah, not happening.

Maybe Google could smooth that integration a bit. I'm sure it's being developed. One of the big stories out of I/O was Google trying to improve interactions between apps...

That's not an interaction between apps, though, it's giving someone else unfettered access to Google's Photo servers. (It was amazing when they allowed SIP access to their Google Voice servers.)

True.. Facebook would find a way to make it as invasive as possible. Give them an inch, they take a light year..

I dont understand

I just go in Google Photos
Choose the picture, click share and I get the option of how I want to share it which includes facebook?

Is this not what you're asking for?

No, what i want to do is be in the Facebook app and post a pic from the app, or if I'm responding to a post and want to add a pic, i can't just add the pic.

Example, there was a post about home renos (which we did a full house reno last year) and a friend wanted to see pics of their friends renos, so i wanted to respond with a pic, but i click on the add a pic, and it will take you to your internal pic storage but everything is in the cloud, so I have to manually download the pic, and then select the pic.

With my Samsung S7 Edge, everything was internal. I'm just looking to how to be more efficient

I see, you mean the other way round.
For what it's worth its definitely an app limitation rather than a device limitation.
If you're after a workaround just hit that multitasking button and open the photos app and share straight from there or download to your device if needed.

If you want to be able to get into your pictures when you're in Facebook, it's something the Facebook developers would have to add to Facebook. I don't use it, but is there a way of sharing when you're in the Facebook app - the Facebook menu, maybe? That's the normal Android way of doing things like posting pictures - sharing.
