Pixel + Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX = incompatible? Android Auto problem?

I have a Pioneer AVIC-8200 which worked flawlessly with my iPhone. After having owned an iPhone since they came out, I took the plunge on a Google Pixel and now I cannot get Android auto to function. I tried two different cables, updated the firmware, launched Android Auto from the phone, etc. NOTHING!
I emailed Pioneer but (of course) no response and have given up on trying to call them (hung up after 31 minutes wait).

Anyone has any suggestions? This is incredibly frustrating!

Not that it helps you now, but send a big report to Google too. It's possible there's a unique issue in the Android Auto software with that device.

Still nothing. I keep calling Google and Pioneer but getting the same BS "we're working on it". Considering that I spent close to $2K between the AVIC-8200 and Pixel phone, I would expect that it would work... Super irritating...

Latest update. Pioneer is supposedly going to put out an update in... February next year. Totally ridiculous but at least it seems that they are addressing the issue.

Just FYI this is still an issue. I have the latest firmware (1.04) on my 8200nex and a Pixel XL with current updates and get the exact same red screen. Followed Pioneers workaround by turning off AVICSync etc.. tried Pioneers suggested cables, ordered 3 on the list from Amazon, oh well needed some USB-C cables anyway. Worked great with Apple car play. Just hate Apple telling me what to do so went back to Android. I see that was a mistake. From what I've read, Android Auto is a complete mess.

Also FYI, I have a AVH-4200NEX (V1.6) and a Pixel running 8.0. Android Auto works perfect until the HU warms up for an hour or two and then it will crash, reset, and crash again until USB is disconnected. Obviously a bad HU but now I own a lot USB C cables I did not really need. Guess that old saying about how everything looks like a nail if the only tool you have is a hammer comes to mind. Love the setup when it works.

Mine only works in USB2 slot. Try changing your cord, just remember that firmware can only be updated in USB1.

As for the e brake, the green cable must be attached to you e-brake sensor to ground it out when e-brake engaged. You can also ground it to the black ground wire on your wiring harness.
