Pixel & Pixel XL Pricing Rumors

I don't understand all these over reactions to a phone that has not even been announced yet!

I assume most of what we hear is correct but even if the pricing is right, why not wait for the phone to actually be announced, released and reviewed BEFORE saying it's not worth the price?

Took the words right out of my mouth. After reading this thread, I literally looked around the web, expecting to find some sort of official price release (or at least something close to it).

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the pricing rumors are correct, and I'm personally a little concerned about the price; but I'm also going to wait until it's official before coming to any conclusions.

I wonder how Google will sell the Pixel phones? Mail order only? Or through places like BestBuy, etc? I don't think it's going to be a VZW exclusive, based on what I've read thus far.

I would be shocked if it was a Verizon exclusive. After seeing what they did to the Moto Z, I loathe carrier exclusives. Not only do the GSM folks have to wait close to 4 months, we are being asked to pay $50 more for an unlocked version.

Lmao you sound just like me. It's like I just can't get away from the Nexus/Pixel line because of feeling safe lol. But I've been doing so much research this year because I really need a new phone. My Nexus 5 is like done. There are only like a select few I really would like to buy if it's not the Pixel XL. Only problem is the Xiaomi 5s is only coming out in China and the Moto Z Force is only for Verizon. But then I found (with people's help) the Moto Z Play is coming unlocked AND it's battery life is f'n fantastic. Which is one thing I mostly care about besides OS/Security updates and this phone delivers. Over the OnePlus3 and others.

Honestly, that Zplay has moved up the list a little. But it still hasn't been released as an unlocked version. That might be a fall back, but I'd have to fall pretty far back to really consider that for my typical 3+ year phone cycle. Otherwise, I like what I've been reading about it, for the most part.

*scratches head* *shrugs*

I'm excited for it and can't wait! I'll buy day one based on what I've heard so far and if it sucks or is not worth the price then it will go back to Google within the 14-day return period...

..what else would we talk about?

what kind of smartphones do the two presidential candidates use? (iPhone or Android) no... seriously, does Trump use iPhone or Android phones? What about Hillary?

apparently Ortize of the Red Sox went to the iPhone 7 Plus... perhaps his contract with Samsung expired? :(
:)

What I want to know is if it's so expensive has rumors indicate and if it is really a better phone than the HTC 10.

Cheers

I doubt it's a coincidence that HTC has lowered the price of the 10 for the week when the Pixel phones are announced. I doubt the HTC 10 will be an attractive buy at $700 compared to the Pixel at $650.

Google almost makes it sound like the Pixel is the next iPhone-killer. :D

While I've never really been into iOS, there's no doubt that A10 fusion chip trumps any android SoC at the present time. Or perhaps it's Apple's implementation and optimization that makes it all work so well. Regardless, Apple sets a performance standard (and support standard) that Android would do well to emulate. IMO, of course.
(He says as he types on his lone iDevice... an iPad mini2). :D

iPhones aren't any faster at loading most apps than Android phones. The iPhones have better GPUs so they load games and GPU intensive apps like image editors faster, but that's about it. Most of the speed people see in iPhones is confirmation bias.

Good points. The speed test video I've seen comparing the OnePlus 3, (the gold standard to my eye) to the iPhone 7 shows the ip7 clearly outpacing the OP3, most notably loading games. But the difference was humbling.

Maybe the reviewer selectively chooses apps that favor one or the other? I have no idea.

Here's one with the iP7 vs the Note7 (SD820 version):

Galaxy S7 (Exynos) vs OP3:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AY5tRg1Wo8

And the iP7 vs the OP3:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfRm3WFEpTs

In the middle example of the OP3 and the GS7, the reviewer mentions the OP3 has the latest update with improved ram management. I don't know about the last one with the iP7 vs the OP3. So honestly, it's really hard to know if the playing field is level or not. I wish the Phonebuff guy would do the iP7 vs the OP3 with the latest updates all around.
Maybe that would be more indicative of the performance differences between iOS and Android with current SoCs.

The one I provided is a better example of real-world speeds. The first two you posted include games. If that test was done without games, it Samsung would be just as fast as the iPhone. I watched the last one and the guy gave a point to iPhone even when the Antutu app was crashing while loading so that guy has an agenda.

Well........... A lot of reviewers have started going back and looking at devices months later... Lets call it the Samsung effect..

Why? Because they bog down and slow down after a few months.. Most users will never notice because phone CPU's these days are already overkill but... The Samsung effect is real..

Anyone remember that just a few short years ago Samsung was the laughing stock of Android?

Which is one reason I'm seriously looking at the OP3. It's my impression it doesn't bog down like Samsungs (or at least my old GS4). And just another day or so until the Pixels enter the equation.
