Pixel - Signal dropping (Update: Google Knows)

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

I just realized that when I turn off the cellular radio in the radio settings, it looks like hollow bar. I wonder if the cellular radio is actually turning off, and not just loosing signal when it happens. That would explain people getting hollow bar even when they have good signal strength.

If you have airplane mode on and WiFi on at home, your cellular radio should be off. I set mine up that way cause my home signal is so poor and it saves battery. Yeah, I have to remember to turn the cell back on when I leave home. But, I am so obsessed with my phone, that's not been a problem. LOL.
You could use tasker to turn it back off, might need root tho.

The bigger issue is everytime I get hollow bar my wi-fi calling provisioning gets disabled/turned off. This happens even when I have airplane mode on only wifi enabled

Matty I think you're right. I've been doing a lot of troubleshooting lately as I refuse to accept I'm essentially out $800 on a flagship phone that doesn't work. If i dial out to #*#*4636*#*# and pay attention to what happens when I get hollow bar I've noticed this is not a normal dropped signal issue as it does happen to me when I'm sitting still with 4-5 bars sometimes. Everytime I get hollow bars my cellular radio power, volte provisioning, and wifi calling provisioning get turned off then turned back in within 10 seconds. My cellular network state also goes to disconnected. Once it reconnects I might show that I have 3-4 bars of signal but I can't dial out because the phone hasn't actually re-registered/re-provisioned itself on the network yet.

HA!! This isn't a signal strength issue at all, the radio is turning off and back on. That should give you guys some ammo toward Google and Verizon. I guess the next thing is to see if hollow bar happens on other carriers than Verizon. If it's all carriers, than its Googles problem. If it just Verizon it's their issue. Anyone not on Verizon have hollow bar issues?

It could be the carrier doing things on the network side, I had the same issues when TMobile was upgrading its network in my area, went on for weeks, and now my signal is solid.

Like I said I had hollow bar when I first got my Pixel. But, it went away totally after a few days. I assumed it was where I had set my radio band, but it could be something Verizon did in my area, or to my phone in particular. Would take phone calls to them to figure it out at this point.

I'm one of the disappointed people with issues on this phone. I have wi-fi that continuously disconnects and reconnects constantly. I've tried a bunch of things to fix it, shy of obtaining a new modem, which is just ridiculous considering every other device connects fine to either 2.4ghz or 5 ghz. I really, REALLY loved my pixel xl. But constantly dealing with dropped wifi without me realizing and then watching my data dwindle is just annoying and upsetting. There's so much to really love about this phone, but I'm not the only one with this issue. I gave up and traded in the phone and went to an iPhone 7+ the other day. There is zero stock available at my carrier to get another Pixel XL. Personally, I loved the Google experience and the phone was very smooth. I just hope Google can work out these issues for the Pixel 2. As someone who sends a lot of MMS photos and receives a lot as well, having to constantly keep data off and flip it back on was a pain. I really hope you guys get these issues worked out. For now, I'm happy with my iPhone7 +, but if I had my way, I wish I could have kept the Pixel.

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

The intermittent WiFi was the deal breaker for me. I live in a low signal area. My WiFi would drop and sometimes it didn't reconnect. I'd check phone after a couple hours, toggle the WiFi, and get slammed with messages. In that regard, the Pixel was my worst phone experience.

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

There are definitely those of us who have problems with the Pixel XL connecting that have nothing to do with the carriers. Everyone else in my household gets on LTE fine, and connects to wifi fine. We upgraded the wifi and the Pixel still drops that connection frequently and it barely connects to LTE at all. I have had other phones in this location that had no problem even when the wifi was iffy and none of them have had any problems with LTE. I am no happier with the phone than I have ever been. Saving up to pay it off in time for the next Samsung offering. I am glad a lot of people love this phone, it's always cool when people find the right phone for them. This one just isn't it for me.

I took a few months break to get away from all the negativity this forum was seeing.. I do not doubt that some are having issue so that's not the reason for my post here..

Are people still falsely calling this a $1000 phone in an attempt to degrade it? I paid $650 for mine which is nowhere even close to $1000

Meh, time to head off again I suppose...

Even if people only did spend $650.00 for a phone it doesn't mean they shouldn't be entitled to something that was designed to and SHOULD work as a phone. Other companies are capable of doing so right ?

128GB+XL= $953.73 with tax. Reality is neither positive or negative, the reality is people have the same call/data/wifi/bluetooth issues with multiple replacements.

Wrong... $869 for a 128GB Pixel XL on the Google Play store.. Anyways, I see you are still at the Pixel bashing. Do you have one or did you ever even get one?

Don't bother answering.. I'm out... Apologies to the people with issue for sidetracking of the thread ..

$869 + 9.75% tax= $953.73.

Heck no, not until if or when they ever fix the quirky connectivity issues.

Agree.. I don't have any issues on mine however...

I was responding to the person who has never had the phone but has been bashing it since it was announced... Hard to bash something you've never had but I'll digress so the thread can get back on track..

Re: Verizon Pixel XL - Dropping calls?

On the WiFi front, I bought a new router just for to rule out an issue on "my side" of the connection. It didn't help and my Nexus devices continued to work just fine. So concluded the Pixel was the issue. It's very perplexing. I mean Google is the epitome of technology and the internet. You'd think they'd have this down.

You would think they would have this down for sure! Now from what a lot of users are saying is that this update fixed the popping and distorted speaker sound, and it's funny that just about a month ago Google announced that it was a hardware issue and not a software issue. Now all of a sudden, it's a software issue. In some instances, I think they themselves are clueless.

Sometimes I think they should change their name to "Giggle" because they certainly are good for a lot of laughs..... That's for sure

The phone is 900 dollars in Canada and over 1000 for the XL at my carrier. *shrug*
