The ease of use with the folio keyboard on the lap was one of my main concerns, but it's fine. Certainly better than using the Surface Pro on the lap, since the Slate with the folio keyboard essentially rests on a broad flat base, while the Surface Pro is all lines. But the folio keyboard does take up a little more real estate on a desktop compared to the Brydge keyboard, so if your desk is really cluttered or cramped, the Brydge might be the better bet.
I have the i5, which works great. I can't comment on the i7, but if you're not routinely doing really CPU-intensive activities, I think the i5 will be way more than enough.
