Pixel Sound quality

Shame it doesn't have the stereo speakers on the front. I wonder what it sounds like with headphones too

I wonder how many different ways one can say it has all the same audio elements as the HTC 10 which sounds amazing through headphones? The stereo speakers just don't matter and are a niche selling point. As long as the speaker isn't on the back of the device, then it's good to go.

I hope the headphone output is better than my 6p. Cant run my senns without a headphone amp, it just doesnt do the job. That plus the aux to the car. Thankfully my N6 has a great one.

As someone who's current phone is Moto I'm spoiled with loud speakers. I really hope the pixel xl can compete. Past HTC phones have had pretty good speakers as well.

Honestly, for my needs the only audio I care about in a phone is the clarity/loudness of the speakerphone and the resolution/gain in the DAC.

Stereo speakers on a 5 inch chassis is just lol.

iPhone 7 doesn't. It has to be built into the headphones. Which is why that was a dumb move.

(For headphones of course...the speakers don't really count)

iPhone 7 still has a DAC. Remember that "converter" that converts lighting to 3.5MM? There is no DAC nor AMP in there, so where do you think the DAC is?

iPhone 7 has an onboard stereo DAC, last time I checked, it still had speakers.

Lightning to 3.5mm connector also has a built in DAC, else how would you listen to music? Lightning port doesn't support analog output.

Yes, this is the same DAC used with the HTC 10, I'm thinking Google has crossed all Ts and dotted all Is with the pixel. I'm so glad mine will be here in 2 very long weeks. I ordered mine though Fi and they had a little better selection than the Google store.

Here's the site for the DAC/Soc 821

You are totally wrong: " The HTC 10 uses a stand-alone DAC as well as headphone amp and isn't using the Snapdragon 820 DAC. This is pretty important, and why the HTC 10 sounds as good as it does." HTC 10 audio testing — BoomSound evolved | Android Central

Yeah I thought they might be wrong but didn't have the data to correct them.

HTC 10 sounds much better than my Note 7 did. Even if they were using the same DAC, there's no replacing an amp.

I may be wrong, but to say that I'm ”totally wrong”is disingenuous. I read what was put in front of me. And, if you tap the link inside the article I cited, you can drill down on more information about the aqstic codec. I've attached it for you. Are you certain that I'm ”totally wrong?”

Expect that in a few years (if not today) the DAC in the SOC will be as good as the Separate DAC's being used for HIFI sound on phones today.

"Totally Wrong" may not be the best use of the English Language. I'm not sure how the word "disingenuous" (not candid or sincere, typically by pretending that one knows less about something than one really does.) applies here. Where you got your information is not material to me. What you said was not true, hence I said you were wrong...

Compared to my 6P, the 6P front facing speakers are way better and play a lot louder, but the Pixel's headphone jack is better (goes about 20% louder IMO). Both are plenty loud for me using high end earphones. Sound quality is similar, I can't tell a difference with Google Play Music as my source.

I came to the same conclusion comparing my 6p to my newly acquired Pixel.

I don't find the volume as loud on the pixel compared to the N7 which is a little disappointing. Quality is the same.

For me, it is just a bit louder than my Note 7 speaker. It's OK, not great , not awful IMO ...

@davidb423 I'm like you... whenever a new phone comes out that I'm interested in I always have a hard time finding any review that discusses the quality of the speaker. I dont know why phone reviewers spend time on stuff like... Is it a fingerprint magnet? or how it feels in the hand. I dont know anyone who doesnt put a case on their phone so fingerprints and feel in hand mean nothing. How loud and clear the speaker is NOW THATS IMPORTANT!

Played with one in the verizon store... Its nowhere near as loud as my nexus 6p and while there i also compared it to the iphone 7 next to it. The iphone was louder and more clear in my opinion. I dont care about it not being waterproof but I kinda need the speaker to be loud. I'm searching ebay and amazon for one of those cases that coup the speaker and direct it to the front. If I can find one I will pull the trigger and get a pixel.
