Preface: BlackBerry user 10+ years. iPhone user 5+ years as well. Really liked BlackBerry DTEK50 except actually didn't like HUB integration with Android. Time for a change. Would like to go to Flagship Android device. I've narrowed down to the Pixel and S7 Active. Besides the obvious differences of Nougat versus Marshmallow, Physical style of sleek Pixel and Rugged Active and major other deciding points? I feel I can't go wrong. Pixel is $150 less. Can anyone comment maybe on things like sound, call quality, etc. Also, I'm on AT&T so would either be bought from Google if Pixel or Best Buy Unlocked if Active. Thanks! I did search for first and found along thread about Pixel versus S7 and S7 Edge but I heard Active is quite different due to shape, housing, etc.

I would go pixel xl, I know it's bigger and more $ but the bigger battery will help it be more even in that department. The bloatware on the active made me return mine. Those physical buttons just aren't my cup of tea either.

I have a pixel xl, s7 active and s7 edge.

The s7 active is a awesome device. It is smaller, thicker and feels heavier. The best thing I like about the active is the battery. I easily get over 5 hours of on screen time and could get more if I could use the phone nonstop. It also takes a micro SD card and has HD voice and wifi calling on att. One drawback is the buttons in that you must actually press each button (for glove use) and that is not as easy as the pixel or the edge with only has a home button and capacitive back and recent app button.

The s7 edge has a 5.5 inch screen, thinner and lighter and water resistance. Unless you really need the ruggedness, I find the larger screen on the edge and pixel xl more useful. Samsung pay blows away android pay which I have never used. I hated that google bagged google wallet which I miss.

Since the S8 is due out early next year the prices on the edge are really good.

If you like pure Android, the pixel xl is the best and smoothest you can get right now. It is a great device and I am 9 days in with it and while I like it but still not 100% convinced I will keep it. I used google maps to travel for Thanksgiving and felt the response was slower than I wanted and just did not seem up to par with my S7's or iPhone 7+ which is the best for Google maps. I still do not understand why android has 3 settings for GPS versus just using it when it is needed and then turning off.

All are great devices and if prices is no concern, I would rank them pixel xl, edge then active. If price is considered I would say edge, active, pixel xl. There is really nothing android 7.1 can do that TouchWiz cannot do in 6.01. The pixel is smoother without a doubt and if any amount of lag bothers you, get the pixel. The Samsung's do show lag periodically so be aware of that. I see you mentioned 5 inch screens and if that is important I am sure you could get a mint or like new active on Swappa for less than a pixel.

Thats my 2 cents. Have fun deciding!

Just pulled the trigger. Silver Pixel 32GB...and even setting it up was kind of fun. Really like the phone. No XL in stock and going from 4.7 iPhone this is a step up in size a bit anyway.
