So I just picked up a Pixel XL and have been having a lot of WiFi issues that I never had on previous phones. Have been trying to log into my WiFi at work and it is constantly going in and out and half the time when it is in it has a little X in there per the attached screenshot.

Can someone advise what this symbol means? Nobody else is having issues connecting to the WiFi here.

Thanks for the help.

It means it find the wifi but the wifi itself/the router isn't connecting with internet. I get this frequently at the local library with free WiFi or Starbucks.. at home I get it with both my eyes occasionally and have to reset one or not does to get internet functional again.
Basically it means you are on a network that isn't getting access to the internet.

This is a work network, so not something I can go and turn on and off. And there is also the fact that no other device I have used has any issues and either does any other person using their phone's/laptops.

I may be mistaken, but I think it also could mean that it's an open (no password required) access point and that an encrypted connection cannot be established.

i am having the same issues. my WiFi constantly goes in and out and I know it's not my router because other devices (work iPhone same carrier, laptop and tablet) all work fine. any ideas?

Try reserving the IP for your phone's MAC address in your router (so your phone is always the same IP and nothing else can use it). Bet that fixes it.

The x means the phone had connected to the WiFi access point but does not have internet access. There could be a number of reasons for this.

Best bet? "Forget" the connection and then try it again. Check and double-check the password - a fair number of these issues come down to an incorrect or mistyped password. If that doesn't work, do a full Networking reset (the instructions vary depending on your OS version).

I have the same issue with my Pixel on my wifi at home and I got my phone replaced because I thought it was defective. Google knows all about the faulty wifi connection but their reps play along with the nonsense troubleshooting if you complain about it. I'm in the middle of a feud with them, demanding a refund or a Pixel 2. I think everyone who has this problem should get on board with me.

I called Google and they said since my phone was purchased from a third party like Verizon they would have to check the phone out first prior to shipping a refurbished phone. I said I purchased a new phone, I have constant WiFi issues and now you want me to send my phone to you so you can see what the issue is. Meanwhile, I'll be without a phone for up to two weeks and if there is an issue I'll get shipped a refurbished phone. I have already had issues with my Nexus 6P that's why I moved to the pixel and now I'm dealing with this.
