pixel XL 2 screen size in current pixels footprint

So I'm really debating upgrading to the new pixel XL when it's released but my question is will the rumored 6 inch display fit inside the current xl's footprint ? I have the 2016 pixel XL right now and the size doesn't bother me but my main concern is that the screen size being rumored to be a half inch bigger wouldn't the phone grow in size to ? Possibly taller than Galaxy s8 plus? Because that would be a bit much for me ..a phone taller than the current pixels might be ridiculous. What do you guys think.

A major point on my mind too but there is easily another half inch of screen available in these bezels, if they change the screen aspect ratio. That's the part I'm not so sure about.

I have the case for the XL2. Same foot print, don't worry about it.
