Pixel XL sold out? Buy an iPhone 7 Plus

What relevance to the pixel does this thread really have?

While I love my Pixel XL, which was very hard to get as I had to import it (Google's not selling them in Switzerland), I wouldn't exactly call an iPhone 7 Plus a 'crappy device'. The OS might be boring, but it works exceptionally well. The hardware - well, there's no denying that the Pixel XL looks eerily similar, but lacks water resistance and OIS.

I'd say they're both excellent in their own way.

iPhone's are not crappy devices at all and actually very good at what they do. But Boring? Absolutely! But this coming from an android fan forum full of people who like to constantly tweak their phones. And why shouldn't we as it is not only fun, interesting but totally do-able. And that's my problem with iPhones. I've had 2 and still have a 6s as a backup device. fast, snappy, quick, great RF,great battery life, couldn't ask for more in a phone. But it is boring with a capital "B". When I find myself getting in need of a change I just put my sim in the 6s. Lasts maybe a day or two at most. Then I start to re-appreciate my Android phone and I'm good again tweaking stuff. It's like a drug and the iPhone is a weak version of the same drug. Doesn't make me warm and fuzzy.

No he has to get it via Tmobile because he's on jump on demand. He was busy that day so he had our mom place the order at the store since she is also svitching to the iPhone. He told her to order the matte black, but she accidentally ordered the jet black. She got hers, but he's backordered to oblivion. LMAO serves him right for ditching Android

It's a new product line with a supply chain that doesn't compare to Apple because they have been doing it for nearly 10 years.

Are you surprised? They'll get better at it but I don't know what wizardry you're expecting from a gen 1 product.

I have not ordered my pixel yet, debating between sizes.

So can you customize the iPhone at all? Can you change the apps in the dock? Can you change icons? I know you can change backgrounds, is that it?

The dock you can change (99% sure) icons, that would be a negative (maybe possible if jailbreaking it is still a thing)

I'm fortunate to have both too. I can't put the Pixel down. It is just as fast as the iPhone and to me more fun to use. As mentioned earlier this is an android forum and we all love to tinker. iPhones are great but boring. Fun to use from time to time but it really can't be my daily driver. I need the flexiblity of Android for work and play to do the thing I use my for for. A better mobile "computing" experience.

I've been running Android from back in the day when I was dual booting my HTC Tilt with Windows Mobile 6.5 and Android Eclair!

I tend not to replace phones until they're starting to have issues. I ran my Palm Pre 3 for almost 4 years and I still miss it. I could never see why people need to get a new phone on the day it's out. I'm tired of being the guinea pig on half-baked software. I wait until at least the first update, but that's just me.

That's smart. But there is nothing like getting a new device on the day it's released. Feels like an event.

Completely agree. However, the problem(at least for me) is while you wait for the buzz to die down & issues to show up. You find out the next latest/greatest device is only 4-6 weeks away....so you wait some more. Next thing you know you have a 4 yr old device begging to be put out of its misery.

At some point as with all new things you have to be happy with what you have. I think getting a new phone every 2-3 years is a big step up and usually worth it. I don't know if I could wait longer than that unless the technology didn't progress that much which would be pretty sad.

Buying a phone that's been out for 2-6 months is nice because hopefully all the firmware and software issues are worked out. A major device like the Pixel shouldn't have too many issues but people have complained a little of Bluetooth and lens flare. I haven't had these issues luckily because the 6P had major bluetooth issues for me and I returned it.

My line in the sand to update this year is Black Friday. Since it is so close, would be irritated to see some insane deal knowing I could have waited a couple of weeks...provided old device continues to work til then.

Hopefully they will have some stock by then. Not sure they would offer cheaper deals if demand is still so high at existing prices. We shall see.

7plus's are shipping on 3-4 weeks. Exactly the same as the XL I just ordered so what exactly is the point of this post?

Best Buy online or some stores have the IP7s in stock even when it says back ordered. I ordered mine and it shipped the next day.

No you can't change the stock messaging app but honestly, the iPhones messaging app is great so really no need to change it. You can have 4 icons in the dock, any 4 of your choice, in any order.
