Have been thinking about getting a PB, the BF deals make it more appealing, but I know nothing about the OS so this would be a learning experience for me.

I was looking at the $699 - i5 8GB memory - 128 GB SSD model. These are same specs of my Surface Pro.

Would appreciate any thoughts any of you have on the PB - TIA

@billchat just curious have you every tried any other Chromebook before? The PB is a Halo device for the platform. I just ordered mine during the sale, but are you curious about the OS specifically or maybe how it might work with your current tech set up?

@Itsa_Me_Mario and DMP89145 -

I guess I really don't know what I want to know - all my current devices are Windows and I want to try something new.

After posting the OP, I went to the Google Store and the Pixelbook is now "ships in 2 to 3 weeks", last night it was a lot less lead time than that. I went to another vendor I have used, B&H Photo, they had it on backorder.
Seems a lot of people were jumping on the BF price reduction band wagon.

Best Buy still had them with the $300 dollar discount, so I ordered one. Should have it Tuesday. I love expedited shipping - :D

I'm looking forward to learning a new OS and how to adapt to it and it to me. Knowing you people are here should I get into a jam, is my Pixelbook Security Blanket.

Pixel 3 Black 64GB arrives Monday, Pixelbook arrives Tuesday, I'm loving it.

Does either of you know the model of the 7th generation i5 CPU? My Surface Pro has the Intel Core i5-7300U Processor 2.6GHz and am curious how this stacks up against the Pixelbook CPU.

Well, if you depend on Microsoft or Adobe software, you'll want to hold on to that Surface Pro. Apart from that (and maybe some keyboard shortcuts, some peculiarities in Settings, and the availability of accessing "experimental" features by enabling various Chrome "flags"), the Chrome OS learning curve is not steep at all.

It's listed as an i5-7Y57, which has a different range specs than the 7300-U - they're made for different types of devices. Performance according to benchmarks is very similar. The 7300-U runs at a lot higher power capacity and is generally put in devices that have active cooling. The 7Y57 is the successor to the Core m5, rather than from the i5 series.

Thanks Mario/Nauga - that is the kinda stuff I want to know, I've learned something already. I have no intention of getting rid of the Pro, HP laptop, or home built Desktop.

The Pixelbook will be a new toy for me to play with, kinda like Lego blocks for an adult - :D

If you read from a number of people, you start finding things new things to do with it, which is a good thing. :) For me, it was doodling or writing notes with Squid and Keep in tablet mode.

Should be fun for you to have a new Pixel as well as a Pixelbook!

@billchat I really enjoy the Chrome OS. I've enjoyed Chromebooks and I'm really looking forward to the PB.

When I first started with Chrome OS, I was primarily MS and just used the Chromebook for "lighter" work. But it's the opposite these days. I'm primarily on Chrome (like right now) more than anything else. I shifted a lot of my computing online and keep just immediate work on device these days.

Appreciate all the comments. Anybody know if the Surface Pen will work on the Pixelbook, or the pens proprietary?

Is the Pixelbook Project Fi compatible? I called Fi support and got a "maybe" and "should be", I wanted a "yes" or "no"

I've had some internet problems lately, area cable issues, and was wondering if the Pixelbook could be hooked to Fi with a data only sim. If not, I may look for a Fi compatible device to be used in case of future internet issues.

No Sim slot, afaik no esim. Can tether easily to pixel 2 or 3.

I bought one two months ago knowing that it might go on sale this week. A part of me wishes I had waited but I did get a student discount and I have been using it heavily every day so it is what it is.

I love the Pixelbook. It's exactly what I want in a computer. It feels like a tablet computer hybrid. I couldn't stand Windows 10, and tried a MacBook air after for a couple of years and never could get the hang of it.

As for the pictures, it's super easy. I have Google photos in my dock for easy access. You can download a picture and post like normal or if you want to post something from your screen, you can use the pen to take a screenshot or capture just part of the screen and it'll automatically give you the option to copy it to clipboard.

Thanks for the post - love your positive comments about the Pixelbook. I've been using Windows since Windows 3.1 and I'm looking forward to learning a new OS.
Seems I should have ordered the pen too...

Good Luck with your schooling.

I'm a Chromebook convert since 2014. Went from a Macbook to a Toshiba Chromebook 2. I was already ankle deep in the Google ecosystem and that pushed me to knee deep. I really like it. The ease of logging in to my work Linux machine is part of that but I LOVE the light weight of the OS.

The Pixelbook is a major step up from my Toshiba. I wasn't every overly impressed with that one's speed and it felt cheaply made while the PB is as nice as you'll find in a laptop. In a way that's going against what drove me to Chromebooks in the first place-- super cheap, almost disposable machines. But at the sale price of $699 it kinda splits the difference. I'm only a few days in with my PB but I love it so far.

Appreciate all these comments and have not ignored them or this thread.

Due to a comedy of errors, miscommunication, a short trip, and other things that go bump in the night, the Pixelbook was returned to BB. The $300 off deal was done before I could re-order.

In search of another deal, I came upon a factory sealed i7 - 512 GB Storage - 16 GB RAM for $1099, shipping included. This will be my 1st Pixelbook, my 1st Google OS experience, and my 1st time buying from the site.

It should be here Friday. I'm planning to camp on the front porch until the device is in my cold hands and then I plan to bother the heck out of all of you with questions.
