Platform switchers, how are you preparing to move to 3D/Android

I had the Nexus S 4G for about three weeks and learnt all the basics pretty quick. Its a great option. All you have to do is buy the phone, then turn it in within the 30-day rebate and give em $35 for the restocking fee, then you get your upgrade credit back.

Couldn't open the link. I'm not on an android yet so if it's a link to the marketplace I'm screwed.

But thanks anyways :-)

Actually, that's one of the cool things that Google did with the market links.

You can open them from the browser on your phone and it switches you to the Android Market app or you can view them on a computer in a web browser and see screenshots and reviews. If you are logged into your Google account and are viewing them on a computer (and have an Android phone) the "Install" link will automatically download and install the app to your phone.

You can add me to the list of pre users switching over to evo 3d. can't wait. Palm Pre SUCKSSSSS

I too will probably be one jumping ship from my original Pre to the 3D. Unlike many of you however, I love my Pre. The OS is more elegant than anything I have seen out there. However, I feel that the lack of developer support is one of the major reasons that I need to jump ship on the Pre. The hardware is also no great shakes. I pray for the success of the Pre3 and maybe if webOS picks up steam I will jump back to it down the road because I truly have loved my time with my Pre. But, I am excited for the chance to experience the 3D and hope that it's all it's cracked up to be.

This. This is me exactly. (Except for the 3D part- I'm in for the processor, not the extra dimension.)

I'm frustrated with my Pre-, with its lack of support and apps and poor build quality, but really do love WebOS. I'm very excited for the Evo 3D and can't wait to get it in my hands, but I'll be keeping an eye on what HPalm does over the next few years.

Agreed. The Pre is easily the best phone I've had and WebOS is the best OS I've used for anything, ever....but I'm thoroughly dismayed with the lack of support, marketing (to get the support), and the awfully minimal info that has been given about the Pre 3. Hell, we don't even know if it's coming to Sprint, let alone if its 4G or whatever the heck.

As much as I love it, I just have to come to Android and its unlimited support.

If I need my WebOS fix, I'll find a way to get the HP tablet.

I as well am migrating from a Webos Phone to the EVO3D, and i am glad that they are people that are still representing the os. Who out there would say that the G1 was a better device then the Pre? (they both were released around the same time). I was really pleased with the OS, and that will prob be one issue of mine with migrating
No more card multitasking
No more keyboard
With contacts, who doesnt have a Gmail or a yahoo account? since i have both and am not worried about exporting contacts. But ive played with a samsung moment(Moms, downloaded a whole bunch of apps), Evo (Sis, saw how the sense UI worked as well as the video chats), and i played with the G2X(Family Friend, who had an android phone for a year, yet still needed a person who never played with it to set it up). I am knowledgeable on the pre, but the G2X was a totally new experience. So i guess swype will replace my keyboard and all the features of android will even out the lack of multi tasking

I wouldn't call Android lacking multitasking. Most apps, especially games take full advantage of it.

Yep, another Pre owner jumping board to that Evo 3D ship.
Sad, I know Palm had money issues and the sale to HP really delayed things but after 2 years, I'm ready for some real apps and awesome hardware.
Unless HP says a 4G Pre 3 is coming to Sprint by June 24, I'm gone.
I really hope someone from HP read this thread and sees how many Web OS users left for Android when most of us wanted to stay.
I'll miss my Touchstones, that's for sure.

I'm coming from webOS and planning on purchasing the 3D the day it arrives. I'm going to doc all my most used apps and research comparable ones in the Android market so I'm ready to go on day one. Also try to get some top quality wallpaper ready to go.

Also one Question, can you make mp3's into ringtones on gingerbread?

I am also coming from WebOS. The one thing I will most the most is the contact sync and freedom that webos had. I am sure there will be something similar on this operating system offering some sort of contact sync. As for homebrew on the HTC device. I am not sure, but did read something about possibly allowing modified bootloaders recently which is a huge plus.

I had the TP2 1st smart phone ever got the EVO and am now getting the 3D can't wait. Sold my EVO back to Sprint thinking the 3D would be out sooner but I have an Archos Android tablet with Amazon app store so I am still getting the free apps I want and when I put Amazomn App Store on the 3D I'll just reinstall my apps. My friend wiped his EVO cause he was going to sell it then the guy asked if they could wait a week so he put his gmail back in and is using his phone for another week. I was told once you put in your gmail address yu can sync mail and contacts and calendar and of course it lets you into the marketplace. But Sprint told me once your back into the marketplace and sign in with your gmail it shows you all your apps and my friend says his didn't, He also regot app brain and signed it and didn't see all his apps neither.

I took a screen shot of all my screens and my apps so I would know what I had when I got the 3D in case app brain or marketplace don't show them all. Cause he said he didn't see his. I don't know how it works on apps. I had Astro too and read there was a way to back up to it but I didn't think to do that before I got rid of my phone. Can't wait for the 3D to come out.

Another pre owner here jumping over to EVO3D. Think he hit my sentiments exactly with this post.

My wife reluctantly traded in her pre for the EVO 4G a few weeks and she is loving it. She was afraid of missing the keyboard and learning a new OS, but don't think there is anyway she would go back now. With the pre she maybe had maybe 10 apps in the 2 years she had it, now with her EVO she already has 30-40 apps and using her phone all the time. Really hoping the 3D comes out soon, I am getting jealous watching how much fun she is having with hers.

I'm coming from a old Verizon flip phone, no camera etc. I had a Moto Droid when it first came out but got rid of it(long story). I'm absolutely psyched about this phone. I can't wait to take my number off of my ex's family share plan and jump over to Sprint and enjoy the EVO3D goodness.
