Play video trough adapter?

I recently bought an Asus memo 8, ME181C and a slim port adapter from Amazon that says it works with this device to play video from the tablet to a TV. I can't get this to work and I am wondering if it is indeed even possible to play video from these tablets to TV via corded connection. Help please and thank you!

For what it's worth, the official Slimport site only lists the ME581CL version of the MeMO Pad 8 as being compatible: SlimPort supported devices
