Playlist keeps disappearing

I've searched for a solution and couldn't find one, so please be gentle if this has been covered.

I followed the instructions on another thread to clear data and cache to get my gallery to work, and it deleted my playlists in the stock music app. I haven't really explored any other applications to create playlists, but wonder if there's somewhere in the phone that the playlists are stored? Is there an easier way to create a playlist than going song by song?

I'm relatively new to the Droid X, so still learning.

Well if they are files you brought over to your phone from another source then they should be in a folder on your SD card. If they are tracks you downloaded to your device then whatever you used to do so, should have a folder on the SD card with the songs in there. The stock player reads what files I have in my sd folder of tracks I get from MP3 Online Premium and the general Internets
