please help! broken screen

hi,
i dropped my phone over the weekend and the screen is all cracked up. the lights still turn on and it was on vibrate, so it doesnt actually ring but it lights up and vibrates. i have insurance, but i think its about 100 bucks through this and i dont want to have to et up my phone again, id rather pay the same for the same phone back. are there any suggestions regarding whether i should take/send it in to be fixed (and where) or to replace it myself? how will i know that the lcd and touch screen is ok under the cracked glass? thanks
