hi! i bought a LGV10 last february. i had read about the built in DAC but not considered it's importance until i began spending more time on planes traveling for work. i bought a pair of audio technica headphones but they didn't sound much better than my old iphone headphones. so i did a little research and read that the DAC only works between 50-300 ohms and lower impedance headphones like the audio technicas (38 ohms) aren't really using the DAC to its full potential. (i don't know what ohms and impedance mean, i am only paraphrasing). i read an article in the UK that may help but haven't received the cable in the article (http://gavinsgadgets.com/2016/02/08/lg-v10-how-to-turbo-charge-the-sabre-hi-fi-dac-sound-quality/). in the meantime i have tried using a possibly similar cable from radio shack. but when i plug that in i get "external audio device connected". it does sound better, but the volume is still too low for an airplane. am i missing any pieces of the puzzle? an app? the cable in that article from the UK is coming but i wanted to cover all my bases.

thank you!!!

OMG i solved it myself. i mean i found the solution. went back to the link above and found this in the comments.

"Guys all you need to do is unplug headphones then call your voicemail number or any number and then reconnect the headphones as the call is connecting this tricks the phone into selecting high impedance mode, no cable or special connector needed, enjoy"

thank you internet!

i am using android 6.0. i got the trick to work on both flights to and from houston last week. but now that i am home it's less consistent. it seems to maybe only work if you plug the headphones in at the exact right moment when the call is going from connecting to connected. worse i bought two of the cables in the gavinsgadgets article above and they did nothing. perhaps 'normal audio device' is the best audio but it sure is not loud.
