Please stop the HTC 10 hype reviews

HTC did it, their back, solid phone, back to the basics, blah blah hype hype review hype.... Fail.

I've owned many HTC phones and love them over all the rest. I was really looking forward the new flagship HTC 10 to set sail in my hands but I am beyond disappointed, partly at the dysfunctional phone and mostly at the hype reviews flooding the internet oozing over the HTC 10 like it is rock solid piece of equipment.

I've owned and operated the HTC 10 for about 36 hours now and already have a replacement orderd. In the 36 hours I've owned the HTC 10, I am plagued with several major malfunctions that I have never had on another HTC device.

1) When the phone is vertical (not rotated), the top half of the phone is unusable because the notification bar jumps out over anything you are running. For example, just browsing the internet, the white address bar at the top is untouchable because the notification bar pops out over it anytime you get your fingers near the top. I can't even create a phone contact because to save a phone contact you must click the check mark in the top right corner, impossible.

2) There is no manual touch screen calibration at all like in the past HTC android settings, gone.

3) Keyboard is whack. Anytime I press a it does aa no matter what. Looks like aaytime I do use aa, I haave to delete one of the double aas. Touchscreen or software... Who cares, FAIL.

4) HTC 10 customer and editorial reviews boast that the phone's hardware is superior. So maybe the specs are the same as the S7 or close but did I tell you about this brand new HTC 10 I have in which the power button does not work anymore. I literally can not use the power button to turn off the phone, it simply does not work anymore. It worked for almost 30 hours, now it's tapped out and I feel like choke slamming the tech bloggers who sung sweet praises of hardware superiority.

5) 2 day battery life... lol😂. I've drained and charged this phone twice in less than 36 hours. It's battery is about as good as my 3 year old HTC One MAX.

I might just put a .40 cal round through this HTC 10 phone on principle and hate for the paperweight that it is.

1. If you are referring to the heads up display, that is standard on Android now on certain apps. You can install heads off to disable it if you don't like it

2. I didn't see this in my s7 edge either nor with most of my recent smartphones.

3. Try another keyboard. If not then it could be a problem with the display.

4. Unfortunately it sounds like a defect
I would contact the manufacturer for a warranty replacement.

5. I would let it settle for at least a few days before considering battery life.

I'm in the camp that hasnt had any of these issues and has had a great experience so far. Also I know I've seen extremes with what people are saying about the battery, but I work an 8-5 job and when I get off of work, I still usually have around 85% battery life...and that includes searching the web and watching videos on my breaks and lunch. My HTC 10 easily gets better battery life than my old Droid Maxx ever did.

We live in a world saturated with marketing hype. It's the nature of the beast. Some fall prey to the undiluted hyperbole.

Agreed. Ford or Chevy isn't going to come out with a car commercial and say, "We'll admit, this car sucks, but we want you to buy it anyway." Nope. That's not the way marketing/advertising rolls.

I had S7 edge whose battery I charged twice a day in my first week of use. Cuz S7 edge have not battery but for me it didn't last me long as I have thought but 10 for me giving consistent SOT of 4 hours and I have seen if you use 10 for phone it's easy to get to half second day as well.

Last whole year I owned almost all major flagship phones HTC One M9 used one month switched to LG G4 I did admire it's camera but call quality was not good for me then I switched to s6 it might be great but could not keep it for a month then I switched to S6 edge it was better in term of battery but then I bought Note 5 it was great but I switched with brother in law with S6 edge + I hardly used this phone and hated it then I bought iPhone 6s I actually liked it but it charges way slower and also battery was not good so I moved to Nexus 6p for most part I like it, I then bought moto x pure I felt it slower after coming from Nexus then I went to V10 bit felt same stutter issues beside LG display is not good dull. Then I bought iPhone 6s it wS great but charges way slow but battery was good then I bought One A9 and then S7 edge and now HTC 10.

One thing I can say from all my experience that HTC 10 overall experience is on next level. I loved those AMOLED displays a lot but HTC 10 sound on next level made me stop using my 6p less for movies as 10 is freaking impressive experience for movies. Making calls is fun on 10 charging is fun, battery is one you can depend on. Camera got so much better now and it open quickly after 1.80.xx.x update. I would say 10 havr ruined me and I hope HTC Nexus have same level of sound. IMO HTC 10 is best phone I have ever used and you get the idea I have used so many

The phone is a solid 10 IMO . I have the Black Unlocked version, of course on T-Mobile. Only thing I give a 1 rating on is Official Accessories which is getting me really upset . Nothing is available! There is only 1 color of the Ice View case and its not available.... WTHeck! I wish they would make an official battery case that charges via USB C . Have fun with that happening .

I know, I agree of course. A bit overboard, kind of like this phone belt buckle they sent me that won't turn off. I'd back out of this forum if this phone coffee coaster would allow me except the notification bar keeps jumping out to remind me that fricken "Boomsound" is in Theater Mode.

Just took a stab at Slither.io.... just wow, the touch response is as smooth as sandpaper.

Pretty sure I have an HTC 9.8 at this point.

Starting to wonder if this is a troll post or if you really haven't used the phone.
The BoomSound in the notification bar serves a very important purpose, it is a shortcut link to change the settings from "Theater" to "Music" mode and vice versa. Not an advertisement at all, but a very useful feature to change the EQ on the fly.

I disagree with the OP. HTC 10 reviews, tips and tricks, even forum postings seemed to fallen off the edge of the world lately IMHO. I'm not getting enough news about this great device.

Hey All,

I did have a problem with my HTC 10, but it was due to screen yellowing and uneven white, had it replaced and the new one is great, which given the OP's issues a replacement sound well em sensible :)

The screen is not as vibrant as my old S6, I had a good one with no tinting, nice whites, but it is just a process of aclimitising back to LCD as I have had AMOLED screened phones for a number of years.

Boom sound I love it for the customisation of the sound profile for my ears and the extra oomph the audio circuitry provides to my head / ear phones!

I'm not a big on screen time guy but listen to a lot of Spotify and the device is stellar for batter life I usualy plug it in after 2 days with over 30% left! Obviously personal usage patterns will vary the resultant battery time, but overall well chuffed with the phone.

I've never seen touchscreen calibration on any phone with a capacitive touchscreen, only on old resistive touchscreens from back in the Windows Mobile days.

This is the right response :)
Everyone has their experience and they can say whatever they like ( eventhough they should restrain from venting extreme comments).
But yes, one of few failed HTC 10 doesnt make it bad device. As OP can see, most of them loved it and had no problem with their device.

Not trolling son. I ended up with as bad unit neverless. Even with all the greif a broken HTC 10 unit brought me, it still out performs every other phone on the market. HTC has made solid builds in the past and it was very disappointing to see their flagship new release sink on day one. I mean the damn power button stop working, WTF? Touch response was basically unusable on day 1.

I will have a replacement unit in a few hours. If its jacked, then HTC will get some hate mail for sure.

I think I know why this post is being met with skepticism. It matches the same pattern as another thread that was locked. User posts 1st topic on 1st join date with the exact same mode of writing, vernacular and pattern of verbiage usage. However, these freak occurrences are perfectly legit and can happen. Some duds will slip past the QA process.

A power button lasting less than 1.25 days has prevented the phone from being turned off or being able to perform a warm/cold boot :( The situation gets worse because once the battery is drained beyond the time the power button failure, there's no way of turning the phone back on. Having to recharge a depleted battery twice in less than 1.5 days could leave someone with what's essentially a brick since the phone can't be turned on.

Hopefully once HTC gets the defective unit, they can do some analysis to determine how the screen sensitivity became compromised and how the power button incurred a 100% loss in functionality. I'm sure they have some way of bypassing the need to use the power button to turn the phone on, so they'll find out one way or another. Best of luck with the next one and keep is posted.
