Please weigh in on your Pixel 2XL vs/and/or Note8 experience . . .

I compared my Note 8 to both pixels 2 and 2xl, and iPhones 4- 8 plus, in the same areas, including my cars. the Pixels were just poor, no comparison. compared to the Note and Apple 8 plus, they sounded like plastic boxes with bad speakers. others have reported the same, but surely not all. in the car, I could not use the dongle with an aux port with either the 2 or 2xl. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Google and got a replacement 2 and new dongle on 2xl, and nothing helped. horrible echoing on aux. speakerphone in the car was almost unusable. most of this had to do with the speaker phone and aux cable, not earpiece. it worked ok. again, there was no comparison with the Note or iPhone. Just my experience. Ymmv

That's unfortunate that you didn't enjoy your Pixel 2 experience; but great that you are enjoying the Note/iPhone products! It's all about what works for you and what checks off your boxes.

I personally don't see it as a mid-range phone at all. I had an iPhone X and a Pixel 2 XL but ended up getting rid of the iPhone X because I much prefer the Pixel overall.

Anyone who thinks it's a mid-range phone cleary has a different set of values. That's OK.... Let them think that. I love my 2XL and it's worth every penny.

Sounds good! Are Samsung devices now getting timely security and OS updates? They used to always be several months behind.
With the Note 8 and S8/S8+ they've been consistently one month behind Google with the security updates as they need to be tested for their various models and carrier versions. The S9/S9+ was 4 months behind but I'm guessing it was due to other software improvements they were working on.

Well, ha ha, after all my back and forth debating between the pixel 2 and the note8 I pulled the trigger on an essential phone for 249 on Amazon prime day 🙄

I'm curious is the essential phone not going receive support or be continued?

I believe the company will support the device with 2 years of software updates and 3 years of security updates.
