I was going to keep it but sadly I still haven't gotten any shipping info or response. If it does arrive now I will just refuse shipment. I'm done. They killed my excitement.

That's a bummer. You've been beyond patient this whole time. Sucks to see their comms kill off so much interest. It was avoidable.

I'm still planning to give it a 7-14 day run and currently 50/50 on keeping vs. returning. The hardware has my interest. The company has me nonplussed.

I will give it a shot. As long as the screen is perfect (no dead pixels) and the body has no blemishes, then it will be up to software to see if it stays or goes. If it is as snappy and dependable as my Pixel XL then we have a winner. I don't care too much about camera as I seldom take a picture. Seems people have side loaded the Pixel Camera software already, so worst case I can do that and have a decent camera when needed.

Same here was pretty excited when I ordered the essential, but after receiving yesterday and using it for a day all excitement was gone. Great hardware but software it's not polished at all and missing some basic features like night mode etc. I do think this has great potential with future software updates but I like to quickly move on to other phones after using it for couple of months. I think this phone probably will need multiple software updates before everything settles down. I'll leaning to return as well and see how this goes later since have bunch of other phones in the next month which I have to purchase.

I thought so too but it's not there here
You can use apps like twilight etc but never the same as built into OS.

I did see night mode was not available on Xperia XZ premium as well so may be it's not baked into AOSP. Pixel has but may be Google like other OEMs added that to their own build.

I got mine last night and played with it some more and it's pretty good on AT&T. Won't be sending it back, I figured out the screen adaptive brightness was very aggressive and I must say the screen is impressive. The speed and fluidity is also right there with OP5 and the Pixel. Using the camera apk from the Pixel so that works fine too. Turned out once I got it setup it is very cool to use.

I got mine last night and played with it and I have to be honest, this is the worst software experience on any phone I've ever used. To even say that this could compete with an iphone or samsung is complete delusion. My first issue is the screen, if you have an s8 you may as well not even open the package, I have to crank the brightness over 80% to get to my s8 and 50%. But this was a good learning experience for me anyway, my feeling is stock android (and to me this just feels like a lack of effort from a software because this is not stock android, its bare android) and a featureless phone isn't for me. The phone looks and feels nice but thats where it stops. The camera software is beyond terrible and while I can forgive that to future updates the phone does nothing to make it great or create a point of difference besides some cool minimal bezels. Android needs some type of skin even if its light, such as one plus but this thing is pure laziness, even the most basic features are not on this phone (seriously they were too lazy to put a night mode on it?). So yea its going back....from a terrible consumer experience to buy to terrible user experience to use.

Well got mine - too heavy, screen is not impressive, fingerprints too much, going to wait for Pixel XL2

That may be their tactics.

Worst case you have email proof to show you tried to return and no one responded. If they don't you can always dispute with your credit card company down the line so I'm not worried about them not responding. They can choose to do it the right way or we can always dispute the charge.

I used Affirm, I removed my auto-pay info already. I'm not paying for a phone with a camera that takes (slightly)worse pictures then my 2 year old phone, I just need to know where to return it.

I agree but its not even just that, the overall software experience is pretty bad. I am seeing some small stutters just navigating throughout the phone. Its not bad but shouldn't be there on a 2017 "flagship" phone.


Some youtube videos stuttering while other don't but are of the same quality.

The fingerprint sensor isn't the most accurate nor fastest. Still acceptable though

Screen responsiveness is iffy

When apps aren't compatible and leaves a black bar at the top it looks kinda bad except for videos obviously.

I don't know how long it'll take for software updates to fix these issues but I am not waiting around on a $700 device

Now to the camera app, its slow, freezes and the UI isn't very good
