It's $10 extra a month! Just don't buy your starbucks once a week and you got enough for 2 months worth of charges.
~ $0.33 a day, deal with it lol

NEWS FLASH!!! At&T already did it, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE but to pay $30 a month for data for AT&T if you get the iphone, get a clue.

They were also the last of the majors to mandate data coverage on ALL smartphones. That did not go into affect until sept 2009.

I just pre-ordered at BestBuy & they said if I'm not in a 4G area (which I'm not), then Sprint will not charge me the $10 add-on. I understand now from reading multiple blogs that the additional charge is ACTUALLY FOR THE DEVICE which is WACK!!! I don't see how this device will be anymore data intensive then the Hero, Pre, Moment. The hardware specs are better but if your not in a 4G area, just HOW are you using additional data compared to any of those devices that have been running on their network for a while now?

I will not get the phone until 4G gets deployed in my area. There is no way I'm going to throw $10 a month for the heck of it.

For people that do have 4G in their area, the $10 will get them many neat features out off the Evo. For me, it would be a no brainer to fork over the $...

Your not lol
Their twisting cost , Such tactic will hurt them bad.
So much for the new Sprint seems were having flashbacks of the bad old days.

First I'm sorry for the rant ahead of time...

If the Evo was being released to AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile the Smart Phone data package would be $30 extra a month.

So get over it and let be grateful that Sprint didn't follow there lead.

If you are going to complain over $10 you shouldn?t get the phone. I'm so tired of reading on every other forum that you won't get the phone because of this. You know what I bet you will get the phone. I bet you have already preordered the phone. So stop crying, and grow some.

Ok all done....had to get that out....I preordered my EVO at 10am at my local Best Buy wooohoooo go EVO!!

amen, its funny that people dont know that if you want unlimited everything and a new 2009/2010 phone it is going to cost you at least $120 a month on VZW or AT&T.

Is it any different for someone who is paying good money for 3G data on any smartphone and are only in a EDGE area? Eventually more 4G phones will arrive and the price will go up for everyone. Regardless if you get 4G or not.

Something we have to live with...

I think for the $10 extra the hotspot should come free to make you feel better about paying the extra money.

Ding ding ding!! I would feel better about paying even $15-$20 for a combination of "upcharge + hotspot"... but as it stands I'll need to pay $40 extra per months which is a load of crap. My area isn't scheduled for 4G anytime soon (and I know it's not a 4G-specific charge, but the point is I'll be accessing the same network and pulling down the same data that I have all along using Treo's without the extra fee). And I only really need the hotspot when I travel (3-4 times a year) so I'll either be adding and removing the feature from my account again and again or I'll be paying $30/month for nothing most months. So fingers crossed on the unofficial tethering front.

That said, if Sprint is actually making money off of tethering this time I'd think they would take some much more aggressive steps to prohibit anything like MyTether. If something like this comes out they'd have thousands of people cancelling the hotspot service overnight...

What Sprint should have done is market it better and just say that because it is a new top of the line device the everything included plan was 79.99 instead of trying to pass off the 3g/4g statement they are trying to push under the rug now.

Personally I think this $10 TAX is a trial thing and they will closely monitor EVO sales, if sales are slow they will lift the TAX.

This is just Sprint trying to see what they can get away with.

Such anger here it is turning into a hate fest... Lets just do this if you cant afford $10 a month dont buy the phone dont live outside your means. Regaurdless if you think its a good business plan or not in reality you dont have any say so, so dont complain about somthing you have no control over just deal with it what ever way works best for you. I personally do not live in a 4g area but i travel around 7 months out of the year and to alot of cities with 4g either way $10 is not going to put me out if it would put me out i would not buy the phone....

Sorry random thought would you be more upset if they just charged $300 for the phone or $320 for that matter and didnt tell you about the $10 a month

I agree.
I have a feeling it will be lifted pretty fast when CS starts ringing off the hook-the bad old days negative phone surveys start rolling in.

A side note,
I'm not a cheap skate , I'm Sprint loyal but passing up this device due to 10.00 charge. It may sound silly to some but its not fair to charge for something that's not available to many.
Sprint better get their Sh** back together.

I agree. There is more outrage over this than when the other carriers forced smartphone users to switch from their $15 data plan to the $30 plans....

Ya but with VZW and AT&T at least you have a choice not to get all the stuff, so you could potentially get a cheaper plan with them if you don't need all the stuff. Think about it 99% of the people only need minutes,web/text messaging all this other useless crap is not needed for most of the people. I have curently the Simply everything plan and have not even considered using Sprint Tv or Sprint Navigation. Why would I when I can just use Google Maps. Unbelivable, don't you think there is a good reason why sprint is loosing customers every day. When people are happy they don't cancel their service.

Well I hope they backtrack. With the 3g/4g cards they were going to charge either $69.99/month or $79.99 ($10/$20 more than 3g cards) for the 4g ability, but then they changed their minds and decided to charge the $59.99, the same price as the 3g.

If you get a smart phone from Vzw, ATT, or TMob...You have to get the Data Package there are no exception...

Most people don't mind a one time payment. The problem is that the $10
extra could be forever. Would you feel better if you paid a one time fee of say 100 for phone insurance or 7 a month for insurance? Some people prefer a one time charge.

Send sprint a check then....$10 x 24mth = $240....Done 1 time payment...You will have a nice credit on your account..

Most want everything all the extras so it seems then tack on the lower price tag 450 min unlimited mobile to mobile any carrier it explains their recent come back the last year.
Were your getting that cat in the hat 99% figure is beyond me but its not reality.

Actually you can and quite easily. How do you think they keep phones off their network that they haven't activated? All they have to do is when you phone tries to log in to the 4G network, is not allow it in because the phone number hasn't paid the $10.

Gotcha, then I'm an idiot and stand corrected.
